Work Text:
It’s a quiet sound, but nonetheless the soft sound of trickling water outside wakes Will up. He didn’t know why the bed felt so cold —the whole room felt so cold. It took him a moment of blinking the sleep out his eyes to notice that he must have fallen asleep with the window open last night.
That didn’t account for the cold bed. He stretched his arm out to feel the other side of the bed, where his dreamy boyfriend should have been, only to be met with crumpled sheets, a soft comforter, and an otherwise empty bed. He whipped his head up, unsure where he had gone. He looked to see if the door to their en suite bathroom was shut or not.
It wasn’t.
Will sat up, letting his legs dangle off the side of the bed as he put his hands together, stretching his arms over head. He felt a little stiff, they had been training really hard the past couple days —so much so that they really haven’t gotten to do anything once they got home, they just ended up going to bed.
He rubbed at his eyes once more before standing.
He closed the window that was letting in a cool breeze and started towards the bedroom door. It creaked as he opened it but the rest of the house seemed oddly quiet.
He checked everywhere, the living room, dining room, even Mack’s bedroom —which they only had for appearance when teammates would be over. Nothing, Will couldn’t find Mack anywhere.
He went back to their bedroom, and grabbed his phone that had been laying face down on the nightstand. When he turned it over he saw that he had missed a text from Mack.
Mack
Ran to the store
I’ll be home in a bit x
Will let out a sigh of relief. It’s not like he thought anything could happen to Mack, but it was still a very abnormal thing to wake up and not have him curled into Will’s side, head on his chest.
Will
Thanks for letting me know Love x
Drive safe please!
Mack
Of course I will
He sat on the couch —they had a really nice L-shaped couch and while on one section you could watch the TV, the other section looked out a window— and he watched the rain fall. He connected his phone to the speaker that was sitting on the kitchen counter a couple feet away, and began playing some music. It was music that made him appreciate the rain for what it was. It was soft, and maybe ,like, indie pop. It was a random pre-made playlist, but it was really nice.
It was a beautiful morning, the sky was a grey blue hue, cloudy, and it was just the kind of day that you spent inside. Fortunately for Will and Mack, they had the day off. The season had been strenuous, so today was not going to be taken for granted.
It didn’t take long to hear the sound of Mack’s car pulling up to the drive way, there was the sound of the car locking, and then Mack was pushing open the door.
“Hey!” Will smiled at Mack as he stood and walked over to where he was standing, taking off his shoes in the entry way.
“It’s really pouring outside. I don't want to leave again.” He’d stepped out of the entry way and into the main part of the house so that he was standing right in front of Will.
He kissed Will on the cheek and held out a small bouquet of flowers.
“For me?” Will took them in his hands looking between the flowers and Mack sceptically.
“Yeah.” Mack was beaming with pride at the admittance.
“Why? Did I forget a special occasion?”
Mack paused for a moment, shaking his head no at Will’s questions, but there was a nervous pink flush creeping over his cheeks, “No, I just wanted to. I couldn’t sleep this morning, and you were pretty dead to the world, and you looked so pretty, so I went to go get you these.”
“Aw, thanks Mackie.” He pressed a gentle kiss to the corner of Mack's mouth.
Will walked over to their kitchen and rummaged through one of the cupboards until he found what he was looking for. It was a small crystal vase that his mom had given him a couple years ago. He went to the sink and filled it up with water, set the flowers in the vase —arranging them until he thought that they were suitable for display— and then he placed them on the counter top of their island.
He’s adjusting the placement of the flowers, not looking at Mack when he asks, “What do you want to do today? We’ve got a whole day off…” He trails off as he feels Mack step into his space.
Mack presses his front into Will’s back, wrapping his arms around Will’s waist, and just holding lightly. He begins swaying back and forth to the music lightly playing in the background while humming in thought.
Mack doesn’t answer, just goes very quiet, and sways. His fingers trace gentle loops on Will’s covered stomach.
“What’s gotten into you? I’m not complaining, don’t get me wrong. I love this.” He let out a breathy little laugh.
“Just missed my Smitty.” It was whispered right into Will’s ear, and Mack could feel a shiver roll down Will’s spine. “Missed it being just you and me. When you’re all mine.”
“I’m all yours today.” He turned his head and placed several kisses to Mack’s cheek in quick succession, “And I missed you too.”
“I like this song.” He hums along with the song that just started playing as best as he can, still swaying, now with a little more rhythm. “What is it called?”
Will grabbed his phone from his pocket, unlocking the screen. “My Love Mine All Mine, by Mitski.”
Mack turns Will around so that they are pressed chest to chest, swaying together. His hands hold Will’s hips now, but one travels up brushing a stray curly hair out of his face. He slides it down to Will’s chin, holding it between thumb and pointer finger. He lets his head drift closer until their lips are pressed together.
It's slow. They know that they aren’t in a rush. They have all day, and it's just the two of them.
No teammates.
No publicity.
No hockey.
Just the two of them, so privately in love, albeit neither had said it. It was one of those things that they just knew, and it didn’t have to be said out loud. Some things mean more when they go unsaid.
Will’s hands, that were just hanging by his sides, now hold on to Mack. It is yet another spot that anchors them together, but it doesn’t feel like enough, it will never be enough.
These stolen moments will never be enough. Pretending that they don’t sleep in the same bed, that they don't wish to hold hands as they walk down the bustling streets of San Jose, or when they come and go from the rink. It works, but they can never just be themselves in public. They are always a filtered, edited version of the truth.
They both knew that the current state of the hockey world wouldn’t let them have the public version of the life that they are so fortunate to have in private, but maybe some day in the future… until then the little bubble that is their home will have to be enough to get by.
As they broke apart from the kiss, a new song started playing. They had stopped swaying, but the new song and a nice beat. They started up once more. Will draped his arms over Mack’s shoulders, running his fingers through the hair at the back of his head. It was silky smooth —it always was— but a little damp from the rain. He let his head rest against the side of Mack’s face, soaking up the warmth that his skin projected.
“This is really nice.” Mack’s face wasn’t visible but it was very obvious that there was a smile on it.
Will pulled back, drinking in every feature on Mack’s face, not wanting to miss a single expression that crossed it. “Yeah, it really is.” He looked into Mack’s extraordinarily green eyes, it felt like he could be swallowed whole by them, and he wouldn’t mind at all.
He pressed a kiss to Mack’s nose, and rested his forehead on Mack’s. He watched Mack close his eyes, letting his own eyes fall shut moments later.
They stayed like that, swaying side to side, moving in small circles, in the middle of their house, without a thought for anything or anyone else.
They were the only two people existing in this little world that they created for themselves. There was nothing to stress over, nothing to fear, the only thing that they felt was a weightless floating feeling.
Song after song passed by, and Mack was rubbing soothing patterns into Will’s hips, when Will spoke, “Do you want to build a blanket fort?”
It took a second for Mack to even register that Will had spoken, and then he assumed that he was hearing wrong, “What?” He opened his eyes to get a good look at Will.
“A blanket fort. We could build one.” There was a smile playing at his lips, but not a joking smile. “Come on, did you never build a blanket fort as a kid?”
Mack thought back, he definitely had, he has three siblings, there is no way that they hadn’t. He recalled when he and Aiden were young, they had made a giant blanket fort out of every single blanket in their house. “I did, when I was like six.”
“Pleaseeee, it’ll be so fun.” Will stuck out his bottom lip in a pout, and he knew that Mack couldn’t resist it. He never could. But just to be safe, he blinked slowly, and batted his eyelashes.
“Of course we can, love.” He smiled brightly and planted a big kiss on Will's cheek before asking, “What all do we need?”
Well… Chairs, pillows, and blankets… lots of blankets. Oh, and grab some of our old sticks from the closet. That would be fun. Also, don’t forget some heavy things to weigh down the edges of the fort.”
“Got it. What are you going to get?”
“You'll see.” Will gave him a mischievous smirk before shooing Mack to go get things.
Mack went through every room, grabbing every single blanket and comforter that they had, all of the pillows —even the decorative ones their moms made them get when they first moved into their house together— and dropped them into the living room. He grabbed the sticks, and some folding chairs along with the chairs that sat at their dining room table.
Mack was much too preoccupied grabbing all of the things that Will told him to grab that he didn’t have a clue what Will was actually doing. He looked around to see that Will was still standing in the kitchen. He had his back to Mack, and he was very concentrated on whatever he was doing.
Mack walked on very quiet tip toes, slinking up behind Will, only to place his head on Will’s shoulder. “Whatcha doin’?”
“Making hot chocolate.”
Mack finally pulled his eyes away from where they were trained on Will’s reflection in the storm darkened window, down to what he was actually doing. There were two mugs out, filled with the Hot chocolate mix and water. Beside the cups was a bag of mini marshmallows, and Will was dropping an excessive amount into each cup. Just like how Mack liked it.
“I got all the stuff out.” His voice was quieter than before, soaking in the beauty of his boyfriend once more.
“Okay, perfect. Let’s get started on it then.”
The first step was to lay out how they wanted it to look, and they both decided that they wanted it to be spacious enough for them to both fit, but small enough that it felt cozy.
They set the chairs up, strategically draping the blankets over them and then weighing them down with random objects —mainly books that neither had ever opened— to secure the blankets in place.
After a half an hour of covering chairs in blankets they had, what looked like, a giant mount of blankets in the middle of their living room. Will supposes that that is what it is, but their giant mound of blankets has a front door that can be propped open with hockey sticks, so that basically makes it way cooler.
On the inside they lay down several more blankets and a comforter as padding and then some more for warmth, they lined the inside of the fort with pillows and then had extras where they would put their heads, and they used the folding chairs along the outside wall as shelves for their hot chocolate.
“Wow, you were right. This was a lot of fun.” Mack was beaming down at their work.
“And building it is only half the fun. Now we get to hang out in it.” As he said it they both climbed in it and began getting comfortable under the blankets.
“Now what?”
“I don’t know, we could play a game, scroll on TikTok…Watch a movie and probably fall asleep?”
“I wouldn’t be opposed to a movie and a nap.” He moved so that their sides were pressed together and his arm was under Will and Will was resting his head on Macks shoulder.
“Okay, what movie?”
“We could watch the next movie on your romcom list. What was it called?” Mack closed his eyes in thought, letting his face press into the soft curls at the top of Will's head.
He smelled nice, like clean laundry and something that couldn't be placed —something natural and so very Will. The only thing Mack knew was that the smell was on everything in their house, it surrounded him all the time, and he would never stop wanting it to linger in every room.
Will pulled out his phone, scrolling down a list of movies —many of which were marked with a checkmark showing their completion— until there was one that they hadn’t seen. “Our next one is 10 things I hate about you.”
“Okay, yeah let’s watch that one.”
Without saying anything Will navigated to Prime Video on his phone. He searched the movie, clicked rent, and then pressed play. He sat up, and Mack let out a pouting sound at the loss of contact, missing their shared warmth.
“I’m not leaving forever, Mack. I'm just propping my phone up so we can watch it.” He got the phone adjusted just right and then lay back down, pressing himself firmly into Mack's side. “You’re clingy.”
Right as Will said those last words, Mack wrapped his other arm over top, pulling Will even closer, as if he was trying to become one. “I just wanna be close to you. And I know you like it.”
Will grabbed the hand that Mack had draped over Will, running his fingers over each nail, and then down his fingers to the palm of Mack’s hand. He let their fingers in twine for a minute, just smiling to himself before speaking again, this time it was nothing more than a whisper. “Of course I do.”
They both fell quiet, watching the characters on screen interact. Will liked Kat, she was a cool character. When he was younger, he watched the movie with his mom and sister, and by the end of the third rewatch he knew all of the lines, so much so that he would mouth the words as they spoke. His sister had asked if he thought Kat was pretty, he just shrugged and said ‘guess so, I don’t know.’ He hadn’t even looked at her to see what her reaction to his statement was, but a month later she asked him if he even liked girls. It wasn’t an embarrassing conversation, more so a funny one. Both Grace and their mom had thought that he had a crush on Kat —looking back on it he could see how they might have assumed that. He never stopped talking about her, even when the movie wasn’t playing— but in all honesty he just liked her attitude to the ideas of relationships. He understood how she felt —well at the time he thought he did, but in all reality he just was looking for the wrong person. He told his mother shortly after. She said that she had a good inclination, but didn't want to make any assumptions, and she wanted him to tell her rather than asking him. She wanted to give him time to figure himself out before he had to explain it to anyone else. Will couldn’t ask for a better mom, and sister.
Mack ran his fingers through the hair by Will’s ear with the hand that wasn’t occupied by Will’s hand. It felt nice, especially when a curl would end up lightly looped around his finger, and the soft hair would brush over the back of his hand.
Both boys were relaxed; Mack laying on his side, chest pressed into Will’s side; and Will laying on his back. The steady rhythm of their heartbeats and movements slowly lulled Will to sleep first, followed shortly after by Mack. They didn’t even make it half way through the movie.
Will woke up first, and all he could feel was heat. Everything was too warm. He had thrown on a crewneck sweater and was seriously regretting it now.
He tried to wriggle out of Mack’s grasp, but it was to no avail. All it did was make Mack groan in his sleep and hold him a little tighter.
Will didn’t want to wake his boyfriend up, but he was sweltering. “Mack, please. I'm so hot. I gotta take my sweat shirt off.”
Mack groaned again, but this time he stirred a little bit, blinking his eyes open and yawning before fully letting go of Will.
Will tugged his sweatshirt off immediately, so that he was only in a pair of shorts that could belong to either of them at this point —they share their clothes so frequently that there is no way to know who the original owner was anymore.
Mack blinked a few more times, his eyes were still sleepy looking but they had a different glint to them. “Yeah Smitty, you are hot.” He licked his lips dramatically.
Will looked down at where Mack was laying, his hands clasped at the back of his head propping himself up slightly, with an faux exasperated look, “Thanks love.”
Mack hummed, reaching one hand to trail up and down Will’s side, feeling where ribs ended and where his hip bone started. He let his hand run over the soft space between the two, just staring at Will for a moment, smiling up at him, and mumbled something that Will couldn't understand.
“What was that?”
Mack blushed a soft pink color and his eyes darted around the fort as if he was searching for the words. “So pretty… you’re so pretty Smit.” It was still quiet, but it sounded so sincere.
Will leaned down, so that his face was hovering millimeters away from Mack’s. He could feel Mack’s breath catch in his throat before he softly exhaled. He placed a baiting kiss to Mack’s lips, hoping that he could get some sort of reaction out of him. And a reaction he got.
The moment that Will pulled away Mack’s hand darted up to the back of his neck and pulled him back down, his other hand held on to Will’s waist, massaging at the skin absentmindedly as he kissed Will with more passion.
All day their kisses have been building, from a subtle peck to a slow devastating kiss now, and all day Mack wanted to melt into Will and become one with him.
They were at a very awkward angle, Mack was sorta laying down, but he was propped up with a pillow, and Will was sitting beside him and his body was turned at an awkward angle. Will adjusted so that he was kneeling next to Mack before he slung his leg over Mack’s waist, and settled his weight on top so he was straddling Mack.
Will leaned into the kiss more, planting his hands on either side of Mack’s head. At the feeling of Mack’s tongue pressing into his bottom lips, he parted his lips slightly.
he let out a sigh into the kiss as it deepened.
They broke apart momentarily, Mack looking at Will with dazed eyes, “Missed this. Missed getting you like this.” Without waiting for an answer from Will he went back to planting eager kisses to Will’s lips.
Mack’s lips traveled towards Will’s neck, landing on where his jaw meets his ear. He could feel the hinge of Will’s mouth opening, letting out wanton moans and gasps as he rocks his hips slightly.
Mack becomes suddenly aware of how hard he is, he can feel all the blood rush to his cock, and the friction elicits breathy groans from both of them, and he feels a sudden need to take control.
He grabs hold of Will’s waist, wrapping both of his arms around him, and rolls to where Will was laying before. Will let out a little gasp at the sudden shift in control. Mack was settled comfortably between Will's thighs, and they were locked together, hip to hip all the way to their shoulders.
Mack still had his lips attached to Will’s jaw, but he trailed down to the spot that he knew made Will go crazy. He bit into the skin, held for a moment until he heard Will let out a needy whimper. and then placed sloppy open mouthed kisses over the indents. He wanted to leave his mark, even if no one knew it was from him, even if all the guys would make jokes that ‘Smitty had a girl over yesterday, huh Mack.’ Or ‘ooo did you have to clear out of the house.’ The chirps would roll in, and he’d sit back and chuckle to himself, because he was the one that got to have such a beautiful boy. And he liked knowing that Will was his, and he was Will’s.
“Take off your shirt.” It came breathily from Will’s mouth in between kisses. “Please. Wanna see you.”
Mack was a simple man, and an easy one at that. Especially for Will, so who was he to say no to such a request. He pulled off his sweatshirt and the shirt he was wearing underneath went with.
It was an instant shift, like the air thickened with want, and Will slid his hands from Mack’s stomach up to his chest. He grabbed at the firm muscle, squeezing and pressing his fingers into the flesh with so much force that there would most likely be bruises in the shape of Will’s fingers all over Mack’s chest for the days to come.
Mack leaned down to recapture Will’s lips. It was open mouthed and hot, hotter than it had been all day, and when Will opened his mouth to let out something that was somewhere a gasp for air and a moan, Mack simultaneously bit down on Will’s bottom lip and rolled his hard cock against Will’s. Whatever sound was going to come out of Will’s mouth got lost in a strangled out sound.
He bit down again, rolling the soft skin in between his teeth. At that Will bucked his hips up into Mack, and he could feel his dick grow ever harder with each roll.
“Mack-” Will's voice was so full of want, he could hardly think, all he knew was that he wanted Mack. “Please, Mack, need you.”
it was impossible for Mack to not let out a whimper at those words.
Will’s hands fumbled down to Mack’s waist and then to the hem of his pants. He tugged on them a little bit desperately, and Mack chuckled, pulling them down. Will couldn’t help but stare, he had seen Mack completely naked —so many times— but it would never change the fact that he would always find Mack to be the most beautiful person on the face of this earth.
Mack tugged on Will’s shorts, signaling for him to lift his hips. He was eager to get them off, and once Mack slid them down to mid thigh, Will took it into own hands, getting them the rest of the way off.
“Please Mack, I need you to fuck me.”
“We have practice tomorrow, and an upcoming game. We can’t.”
“I don’t care. Today has been so perfect, I just want to feel you inside of me.”
“I know baby, I want it too. But sweetheart, we can’t do this during the season. It’s not a good idea.”
“Mackkkkk. I really, truly don’t care, I want you in me so bad.”
“I know, I know. But I can do other things for you.”
“Oh yeah? Like what?”
Mack shifts slightly between Will’s legs. It put pressure on both of their cocks, and they let out groans in near unison. He pulled away so that he was just resting above Will teasingly, “There’s lots of things I could do…” he trailed off as if in thought. “I could suck you off, I could give you a hand job, hell I could just rub against you until we’re both a moaning, coming mess.”
Will let out a whimpered “Please.”
Mack looked down at him with a teasing smile, “Please what? Which would you like?”
“Fuck -ah- Mack, please, I want to feel you against me…” How babbles on about how much he wants Mack, but Mack can barely hear him. All of the blood rushed to his cock and he could feel a wave of lightheadedness rush over him.
“Shit, yeah okay.” He looks around for their lube, momentarily forgetting that they are not in their bed, and his brain skids to a halt. He doesn’t want to get off of Will. Doesn’t want to have the warmth of Will’s body underneath him taken away for even a second. “We don't have any lube.”
Will turns a bright shade of red, trying to bury his face in his shoulder, as he mumbles, “In my shorts pocket.” He had gone and grabbed it just before making hot chocolate for the two of them.
Mack smiles, placing a kiss on the tip of Will’s nose, and then leans over to collect Will’s shorts. He rifles through them for a moment trying to locate the pocket, before finding it and pulling out a packet of lube. He tears it open, and places a sizable amount on his hand. He rubs it around trying to warm it up before he wraps his hand around Will’s cock. Mack watches as Will lets his eyes flutter shut, and his jaw goes slack at the touch.
Will lets out soft gasps, Mack stroking him gently, and he would have been embarrassed by the sounds that were slowly pouring out of him more and more if he wasn’t with Mack, but he knew that the sounds only made Mack more desperate for him. More desperate to push the both of them over the edge and watch as they fell apart in each other's arms.
“This okay?” Mack asks, always checking in on Will no matter what they are doing in bed.
“Want you- want your cock against mine.” He was panting, Mack’s strokes were starting to speed up a little more than before, and pleasure coursed through his whole body. “Wanna feel you against me.”
Mack let out a groan. There were certain things that drove him crazy, and Will knew exactly what he needed, every time without fail, Will could —even if it was subconiously— find the things that made Mack’s breath catch, mouth water, and dick throb. “Mmm- mhm, yeah. Love, you drive me crazy. I want to feel you fall apart in my hand.”
Mack let go of Will’s dick, lining himself up so that his cock was pressed against Will’s. He wrapped his hand around the both of them, although it was a tight fit, he made do —they liked the squeeze that it offered anyways. Will’s was a little longer than his, so when he would rock against him the tip of his dick would catch on the edge of the head of Will’s cock.
It made them both groan in pleasure when the first catch happened. No matter how many times they would do this, it would still feel just as good. It would make Will’s eyes roll back in his head and clutch at what ever he was holding on to —whether that be Mack or the bedding that they had around them— and he held fast on to Mack’s back, his nails digging into the skin.
Mack could feel Will’s whole body tense, and he slid his hand so that only a bit of the tip of his dick stuck out above Mack’s hand. He lifted his thumb and rubbed it over his slit. The entire time he kept his eyes locked on Will’s face, and it was to his delight when Will let his eyes fall shut, tongue falling out momentarily to wet his lips, and a keening sound fall from his parted lips.
He reached up to run a hand through Will’s hair, pushing the curls from off of his face. Mack’s fingers pushed away the hair that was covering his ear, so that he could lean down, pressing kisses and nips to the shell of his ear as he whispered, “You sound so beautiful right now, do you know that?”
Will couldn’t help but buck his hips up into Mack and let out whines at the scrape of his teeth and the wet slide of Mack’s tongue against his ear lobe. The slide of Mack’s hand against their cocks was spurred on by the sounds that Will was making, and by the way —he only just realized— he was trembling and mumbling incoherent words.
He didn't even know what he was saying, his throat was constricting and expanding and he was trying to say something of encouragement to Mack who was letting out heavy uneven breathy groans. He finally found the words that he was trying to form. “M -ah- Mack, yes, god yes. Feels so good.”
Mack’s grip tightened just slightly, and the feeling of it made Will throw his head back in ecstasy. He could feel his eyes flutter, but he tried his hardest to keep them open. He threaded his fingers through Mack’s hair, and gently pulled him so that their faces were almost touching. For a moment they just stared, Mack’s pretty eyes boring down into him as he rocked against him and slid his hand in time with the thrusts of his hips.
Mack broke their eye contact, leaning down and slotting their lips together. It was instantly hot and needy. Their mouths were parted and Mack pressed his tongue into Will’s mouth, he allowed it, took it into his mouth greedily even.
Will could feel a heat building in his stomach, pooling deep inside and swelling inside him. He moaned into Mack’s mouth and arched his back, trying to get closer to Mack. His hands grasped at Mack’s back, scratching and marking the skin.
Mack’s hand moved with more urgency, feeling the throbbing in Will’s dick, and knowing that he is getting closer to his release. He pulled his head away, breaking the kiss to look down at Will.
He was so beautiful underneath him. His lips were swollen, spit covered, and a pretty pink color. His hair was disheveled from Mack running his fingers through it, and his chest was rising and falling in heavy breaths.
“Mack, love, I’m not going to last much longer.” Will’s voice was high and needy, “Fuck, feels so, so good. You make me feel so good.”
“It’s okay, come for me. You look so pretty when you come, falling apart underneath me.” Mack’s voice was dripping with want, he could not be touched all night, but the moment that he saw Will come he knew he would only last seconds longer.
Will let out a high keen, letting go and coming. From where Mack was Will was the most beautiful person when he reached his climax. He would try so hard to keep his eyes open —sometimes he could— oftentimes his eyes would shut tight as his body went rigid. When his body went taught, his muscles would become more defined, abs becoming more visible. His release pooled over Mack’s hand and on to Will’s stomach. Mack started to slow down and release his grasp when Will came down from his climax. Will’s eyes instantly went wide, and he shook his head sputtering out, “No, I want you to come with me still in your hand.”
Mack let out a groan, hunching over, the words going straight to his dick. “Fuck you’re so good for me Will.” And with that he was coming, spilling out all over Will’s stomach.
Will’s eyes were glazed over as he stared dreamily up at Mack who was panting heavily and shaking slightly. He watched as Mack lifted his cum covered hand to his mouth and licked a stripe up his palm. Will’s mouth dropped open, and Mack giggled openly at his reaction.
“Try?” His voice was silky and Will was drooling over the idea of knowing what they tasted like mingled together on Mack’s skin.
He reached his hands up, taking Mack by the wrist and took two of his fingers into his mouth all the way down to the knuckle. He sucked and licked between the digits, until they were totally clean. When he pulled Mack’s fingers out of his mouth, he licked his lips and smiled widely up at Mack who looked like he was about to faint.
“Will, holy fuck. You’re so hot.” Mack flopped to the side and laid down next to him, still staring at him in complete awe. He placed a soft kiss on Mack’s cheek and then they both laid back for a moment, staring at the blanket ceiling they made.
“Good day off?” Mack asked, still staring up at the ceiling
“Yeah, great day off.” Will looked over at the profile of Mack’s face until he rolled on his side to face him. “We should get cleaned up.”
“We should, but the bathroom is so far away, and I want to stay here with you.”
“Mmm, yeah. But I feel sticky and gross and you’ve got cum and spit on your hand and it's on my stomach.” He sat up gesturing for Mack to do so as well. He did, begrudgingly, but he sat up nonetheless.
Will turned another playlist on as they got cleaned up. It was more up beat and fun.
The two got into the shower together, pressing in close, and kissing every time that they were face to face. A couple times Will let Mack kiss down his neck to his collarbones as well as the couple of locations where dark hickeys bloomed at the surface of the skin, but for the most part it remained sweet tender kisses on the lips.
Mack begged to wash Will’s hair, “Please Will, It’ll be nice, like a head massage.” He pouted his lower lip and batted his eyelashes.
“I don’t trust you to wash my hair right.” Will grumbled, but then he saw the pitiful look on Mack's face and he caved instantly. “Fine, you can, but you gotta do it right, don't put conditioner in my roots.”
Mack shrugged off what Will said, “I don’t use conditioner.”
“Well I do, it's how I keep my hair so nice.” Will smiled, placing a kiss on Mack’s temple.
“Hey, my hair is nice too!” It was mock pain, and they both knew it, but Mack tried so hard to keep a straight face. He couldn’t do it, and they both broke out into giggles.
Will stood there as Mack rubbed shampoo into his hair, and Mack wasn’t lying, it felt wonderful. He could have stayed there forever, so when Mack pulled his hands away after washing the shampoo out, he let out a whine at the loss.
Mack pressed a loving kiss to his hairline, and then he was scrubbing shampoo into his own hair.
Mack threw a pair of clean shorts at Will and grabbed a pair of grey sweatpants for himself from their shared closet to put on. Neither felt a need to put on a shirt considering it was just the two of them. Mack leaned on the doorway between their closet and bedroom, and he stared at Will as he got dressed.
Will looked up, catching his eye and giving him a nervous, almost bashful look. “What?”
“Just looking.”
“At what?”
He cast his eyes downward before pulling them back up to look at Will as he spoke, “My extraordinarily beautiful boyfriend that I can’t believe I get to live the rest of my life with.” Mack was smiling, and there was a pink hinged blush covering his face.
“Mack, you’re such a sap today.” It was full of a giddiness that hadn’t been present in his nervous words prior. “I like it. It’s really cute.”
He stepped fully into the room, planting himself right in front of Will, who was looking at him like he had just hung the moon. He took Will’s hand in his own holding tight. “Anything for you, my love.” He placed a slow kiss to his lips.
The music from earlier in the shower was still playing, albeit a new song, I’m On Fire by Bruce Springsteen. Everytime Will heard the song, he was brought back to one person, the one person that he cared most about. The kind of caring that he only felt with Mack. The way that he felt about Mack was like no other, it made his throat tighten and heart flutter with an emotion that was so complex, he couldn’t possibly put a name to it. The song would forever be an anthem of the two of them, because without Mack he felt the lyrics ‘it’s like someone took a knife, baby, edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley through the middle of my skull’ and it was a gut punch, because he didn’t ever think of lyrics like something you could attribute to a person, but here he was. And here was this song, and it was so, so very Mack, in every way possible. It might have been a little stupid, but it made his breath hitch a little bit.
Will pulled Mack closer, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and Mack's hands instantly went to his waist, acting as a mirror image of themselves from early in the day. They swayed, just soaking in the presence of each other.
“I love you.” It was Mack that said it for the first time.
And maybe Will was wrong about earlier. Maybe some things can still be significant if they go unsaid, but not this. This was something that he should have said so long ago, because it is the truest thing he has ever felt, and he needed Mack to know that too.
“I love you too, Mack. I think I’ve always loved you, and I don't think I can ever stop.”
