Chapter Text
Akutagawa stumbles backwards, away from her reaching hands, curling his body around the boy in his arms.
Akiko mentally notes that she may have been a bit hasty as he's still clearly in a fight-or-flight mentality as she pulls back.
In the calmest voice she can muster up at the moment, Akiko says, “Akutagawa-kun...it’s okay. You know who I am, and you know that I am going to do my best to treat his injuries. He’ll be perfectly fine.” In the meantime, he holds up both hands to show him that she means no harm.
The atmosphere in the office is tense before Akutagawa manages to give his response.
“…okay, ma'am.” The boy rasps out, throat sounding scratchy from his earlier coughing fit.
Akiko nods, letting her hands slowly fall as she slowly walks forward.
Sliding her arms under the unconscious young man, her worries already increase tenfold.
Akiko can feel Atsushi's ribs through his shirt. The situation becomes even worse when she picks the boy up and she realizes that he's not all that much heavier than her usual bag of tools that she carries around.
This…is not good. This is really not good.
“Alright, Akutagawa-kun, Dazai-kun, both of you come with me. I need to know what exactly happened when you two,” Akiko nods her head towards Akutagawa and Atsushi, “went on that mission. I need to know what I’m dealing with, here.”
Akiko then heads right back to her medical center.
As they walk, Akutagawa fills her and Dazai in on all that went wrong during the mission. Hearing about how the boy in her arms had been electrocuted with such a strong current that it made him pass out, made her speed up her pace. She speeds up even more when she hears him say the words, “started seizing.”
Dazai’s expression became a mixture of surprise and worry as soon as Akutagawa described the part where Atsushi went full Tiger-mode on everyone.
After what seemed like an eternity to Akiko, the small group arrives at her little doctor's office in the Agency. It's really not that far from the main entrance, yet it always seems so far away when there's an emergency. Especially the ones that are life or death.
She busts through the door and gently lays Atsushi down on one of her cots.
She turns around to face Akutagawa and Dazai. “Okay, I need you two to leave.”
“Wait, what?!” / “Awww, c'mon, Yosanooooo-sensei!” are the the two responses she receives.
Akiko shakes her head. “Nope. Sorry, you two. Having people in here while I do an examination and treatment would be an invasion of privacy.” She shrugs her shoulders in a, ‘what can you do,’ type of manner.
So, both men trudge out of her office, Akutagawa looking back worriedly. Akiko gives him a sure nod and mouths, ‘He'll be okay.’
Great, now he's staring at her like she grew a second head. ‘Although, he'd already been doing that. The staring might just be because she slipped him a cough drop back when she was taking Atsushi from him.’
She goes through her meticulous examination of Atsushi's injuries, well…non-existent injuries. There isn’t a single bruise on the kid.
However, what she does find when she opens up his shirt, are two burn scars that lie on his left hip.
But that's not all. Those are just the most prominent of the lot.
No…as she looks closer at the boy for the first time, she finds that his skin bears hundreds of almost invisible scars, scattered around his body.
Another burn scar catches her eye as it shines in the light. It seems old and faded, yet badly healed. It’s as though it had been re-burned, over and over again, in a short period of time.
‘It looks like he got hit with a multiple lightning strikes in a row…but that shouldn’t be able to happen.’
This must’ve happened a long time ago, since what Akutagawa described happened to Atsushi sounds nothing like what could have caused these types of mark.
Needing to turn away from this sight for a moment, Akiko grabs an IV bag, needle, and anything she’d need to pump through said IV in order to get the boy back to full health after she uses her ability, as well as some things to check and make sure he really is injured enough for her to be able to use her ability. While grabbing her materials, she glances out the window to see Dazai and Akutagawa having, what looks to be, a serious conversation.
Akiko looks back at her patient.
“Thou Shalt Not Die!”
