Summary
Neil was acting shifty, and Andrew knew why; that motherfucker was leaving. Despite the promise between them, Neil was prepping to run. Andrew wasn't upset about that, not at all. After all, if notorious Neil "No-Swing" Josten needed to leave after Andrew admitted his desires regarding his proximity to Neil's shorts, who was Andrew to stop him. But that doesn't explain why Neil was stealing socks, or why he wanted Andrew's clothes.

Summary
Millport is a horrible, dry as fuck little town in the vast nothingness of the dust hole that is Arizona, and Andrew hates it with vigor.
He has been tracking a horde of Manticores for weeks now, and isn’t that something? A half-blood having to chase after the monsters. He is starting to feel like one of Renee’s hunters, when Andrew is pretty sure the nasty scorpion-cats should want to kill him more then he wants to kill them.
Or, Andrew expected to find all sorts of things on his first quest. He didn’t expect a twitchy, blue-eyed half-blood with monsters on his heels, and he surely didn’t expect to fall in love with him.

Taking a monster to bed ought to be more complicated – or at least, that’s what the sensible part of Andrew’s brain liked to tell him.
But for all that Neil was made of phantasmagoria – for all that he tasted of brimstone and fire, that his tongue was sometimes forked, that his skin sometimes shimmered black – it was remarkably easy to drag him out of the shadows, push him down on the bed, take him apart until he was hissing in a language that didn’t belong on any mortal plain. Always had been.

Andrew understands that realistically, bringing Neil into his home is the next step for the trust they've built together.
Funny, how his instincts scream at him to make it happen. Wolves are surprisingly self-indulgent creatures; he knew this, but he's only now realizing how true it is. He's simply never had something he wanted to indulge in this badly before.
Andrew fights his brain from whirring with pros and cons, unlikely scenarios, and inevitable possibilities. In the end, he shuts it all down; he's taking this step, and he hates looking back. He can only go forward with Neil at his side, and by default, that means it cannot be the wrong direction.

Summary
"Don't presume to know me," Andrew says, but it has no bite, no resentment. He sounds tired, and the strain makes Neil's smile falter, his arms falling to his sides. Andrew should never sound so defeated, so hopeless, not even for a moment. It's the tone of a man who's already lost, and Neil's not even aware of what game they're playing.
So he smiles again, shaky this time, and hopes with everything he has that Andrew can sense Neil's truth as well. That whatever it is, Neil will still be riding along with Andrew in his truck. He won’t leave.
"No," Neil says back, shaking his head. "I only know what you tell me."
And if Andrew decides to tell him everything, then Neil only hopes it's because he wants to.

"No, you're not real," he says, and he thinks he repeats it a few times, trying to convince himself it's all one bad dream. Whatever is stalking him stops, but Neil can still feel its aura, its power. The presence it has is gargantuan, a wall Neil has no hope of getting past. Just like his father in front of him. At the thought, at the ghost of hands on him, Neil screams. "You're gone!"
And he opens his eyes just as the lightning strikes. It bathes the forest in a bluish glow for half a second, but it's enough for Neil to see.
