Summary
He wants nothing more than to tell Erik the truth, to watch his eight year old dreams become a reality. For Erik to take Peter into his arms just like he always wanted.
But Peter knows better. He knows that besides the fact that Erik is grieving, that he wouldn’t want a son like Peter. A twenty-seven year old kleptomaniac who lived in his mom’s basement for years. Who flunked out of high school and stole treats like a pesky preteen.
It’s a fact so resolute and so hurtful, it hits Peter like a weight.
Erik will never accept you, he realizes. He will never love you.
A stabbing pain hits Peter’s chest, the familiar feeling of dry petals against his tongue.

It was during the most arbitrary of times when Erik wondered how he had ever lived a life without Peter Maximoff. It was in the moments of brief silences, in the smallest upturn of lips, of soft chuckles. It was constant and never-ending. It was as if Erik was trying to make up for lost time in some sense—trying to take in everything he had missed all twenty-seven years of Peter’s life.

He knew, from that sad, sad look on Magda’s face, that they were his. He only asked, because he knew he had no right to demand that from her, after everything he’d done. He could only hope that his succinct words, that they all understood were really a plea, were enough.
It was Magda that had allowed him, but it was Erik who had to face them.
He rounded the corner slowly, watching them for a moment in a dreamy reverie as they sat dragging crayons, gripped tight in their little fists, haphazardly over sheets of paper. They were young, so young. They couldn't be older than six.
Too young to have powers.
It had been Hank who informed them of the energy spike. It had been Charles who had asked him to come along. It had been Magda who answered the door.
But it was Erik who had to face two children he had never known.
