Summary
After, what the media has taken to calling, the Paranormal Liberation War Dabi is forced to hide away until they are ready to take the fight to the heroes. Which is mind-numbingly boring and beyond frustrating. Dabi had been whittling the time away doing absolutely nothing, slowly losing whatever was still left of his fragile sanity. That is, until Hawks made a TV appearance alongside his father and Best Jeanist.
The room is big enough to fit in all the reporters and their cameras in the country.
How fortunate that Dabi has one single red feather left.

"Oh?" Dabi taunts in that flashfire voice of his; and Hawks is reminded, yet again, how easily he burns. "Tell me, what poor little bastard's gonna be riding your ugly-ass coattails for the next few months?"
Hawks frowns, realizing he's just set up a question he actually has to answer. Dabi will find out anyway, won't he? If there's one thing Hawks has learned, it's that Dabi has his ways. Hawks can never hide anything from him, no matter how hard he tries, a fact that will someday spell his undoing –– but there's no way around it now.
Willing his fight-or-flight instinct into silence, Hawks reminds his sharpened feathers he's not here for either. It'll be fine. The worst part of removing a bandaid is the dread before you rip it off. Right?
So Hawks braces himself, and answers:
"Todoroki Shouto."

Hawks' doomed flight towards the sun is thrown off-course when he receives a surprise request from Endeavor's son, asking to be his work-study student. And soon, Dabi's worst nightmare takes a new form when Shouto joins Hawks' obvious-as-hell spy mission, putting them in forced proximity -- only for him to discover that his father's perfect masterpiece is nothing like he thought he was.

Summary
Two years before Dabi joins the League of Villains, he's running low on cash and running out of options. He ends up working with the Shie Hassaikai, expecting the usual yakuza dealings, drugs, weapons, money laundering. What he doesn't expect is that in a room in their base, there is a terrified, heavily bandaged little girl clearly being used as some kind of experiment. Welp, there goes his day, and his patience for playing nice.

After the war, after the dust has settled, after life moves on and Dabi finally draws his last breath in a medical facility, Hawks finds himself struggling to sleep.
Eventually, at the urging of his grief counsellor, he starts talking to Dabi.
One day, Dabi talks back.
