Summary
When he came back from the dead, Jason Todd wanted Bruce Wayne to hurt, whether by his hand or another. It wasn’t enough to hear that Jason’s death had affected the man. He wanted to see it.
Recently things have been getting better between them but, unfortunately, time spent tentatively building bridges added to a new type of fear toxin equals a granted wish but a changed mind.

It bites at Clark -- scrapes at his very marrow, the things that sink deeper into him than Kal or Superman. To think that Gotham believes Bruce Wayne to be a man who has never known want.

"I did." Tim looks up at Bruce, then down again, he can’t hold the heavy eyes. He sucks in a sharp breath, exhales, wheezy and unhappy. He’s too exhausted to run around this, he just wants to lay down and go back to sleep. “When I was nine, I faked being sick, so they wouldn’t leave."
AKA: Jack Drake doesn't take Tim at his word about being sick anymore, which isn't normally a problem. Until Tim gets poisoned.

Dick comes around to stand fully in front of him, keeping a steadying hand on Tim’s arm. “Just because you know you’re safe intellectually doesn’t mean you always feel safe,” he says softly. “It’s okay if you don’t feel safe.”
“But it’s not okay!” Tim bursts out. “Because if I don’t feel safe, then how is Jason supposed to feel safe? He shouldn’t have to feel uncomfortable just because my brain is screwed up!”
There’s a faint sound by the door, barely more than an intake of breath, and his eyes snap to the no-longer empty doorway.
