It didn’t take long after arriving in Camelot for Merlin to discover that he couldn’t die, or rather, that he couldn’t stay dead. It started when he drank the poison when Nimue had tricked him during Bayard’s visit. Gaius, Gwen, and Arthur seemed to think they managed to get the antidote in time but Merlin knows the truth. He had truly died that day. The thing about knowing you can’t truly die is that it becomes a lot easier to put yourself in danger. Not only that, but we all want what we cant have.

She tells Merlin (age 13) that he needs to be around people now. That the time he has been waiting for will come soon. Merlin is taken in at Hogwarts and is allowed to slowly acclimate back to living people. When Arthur Weasley is attacked, Merlin sees a strange man claiming to be King Arthur hauled away. He recognizes him, but his memories are not unlocked yet.

As usual, Merlin has utterly failed in keeping a low profile by inadvertently getting himself dragged into a mess of a situation that appears to have something to do with a seemingly unkillable snake man, a toad woman, an order of phoenixes, and a boy named Harry Potter who, he quickly finds, is equally bemused by his current predicament. When he discovers how lost the boy is, he resolves to help him and his friends get rid of this dark lord--as well as their malignant (and worse, ineffectual) new teacher.
