“I should probably have something,” Jason mused.
“Well, why’d Gilbert become an adventurer in the first place?” Tim asked. They could see Jason’s hesitation, clearly not sure where he should start with backstory.
“To help people,” Jason said automatically.
“Okay, why?” Tim prompted.
Jason sighed, taking his hand out of his hair before running it through again, the heel of his palm pressed against his temple. Tim didn’t know why they were watching that so intently. “Probably because he didn’t have someone like that when he was younger. Wants to be that for someone else,” he looked up at Tim, pain briefly flickering in his eyes.
“You don’t have to draw from your own experiences if you don’t want to,” Tim said softly, surprising themself a little with how gentle it sounded. “It can be whatever you want.”
“I do want it,” Jason said slowly. “I think…I don’t know if I wanted him to have died, but…” he leaned closer, and Tim felt themself leaning closer too. “Maybe he gets to be happier than me.”Written For JayTim Week 2026, Day 2: Enchanted Item

Summary
Somehow, Tim gets roped into creating a Wizards and Warriors campaign for the Bat Clan (just because they played in high school does not mean they still play now, damn it). They start the campaign looking for a missing person, Avery Sincullis, whose last known location is by a series of caves near the outskirts of town. Tim's planned for as many situations as possible, but can one ever truly plan for whatever it is that goes on in Jason's mind?

"I wasn't born an Alley kid, Jay. I chose to be an Alley kid because being here, being with you is what I want to do.” She stares at him with her big intense eyes as he snaps back into the present. “But if certain people found out about who I was before I came here, then I'd have a lot of people after me. I don't mind having fun with you and the others, but I don't like adults and I don't like running. So I need you to let me find you. Can you promise that?"
They both know he’d promise her anything, just as she’d do the same.
His lips thin as he bites his cheek before he gently rests his hand on her cheek. "James, of course I promise. But I want you to promise that you'll keep finding me no matter what. And that when we're both eighteen, you'll find me one last time and we'll get married and we'll figure it out together, yeah?"
When he looks Batman in the eyes with a tire iron in his hand a few weeks later, he takes the tiniest of moments to look behind him to see dyed blonde hair and big blue eyes peak around the corner with a thumbs up and remembers an echo of previously spoken words.
"I’ll always find you. I promise, Jay."
