The Lesser Known Destiel Fics Collection
Welcome to the most underrated collection on AO3!! Every fic in this collection is something someone out there feels should have more views, more kudos, more comments, more love and recognition! That's our aim--connect discerning Destiel readers trying to find more diamonds in the rough to enjoy. So many surveys aim to catalog our "favorites" and "top" fics, and those are great! But let's face it, some real gems are being missed out on this way!
Enter: Us! Being a "Lesser Known Fic" is an honor. Someone loves your story so much, they want more of the world to read it!! However, if you would like your fic removed, please just message @caslostwings on Twitter or @castielslostwings on tumblr! Recs may also be submitted this way between rounds.
Fic recs are typically collected via Twitter "Rounds." The first was held in early April of 2021, and another will happen soon. You can see the original tweets by searching the hashtag #lesserknownfics.
As of now, the collection is closed, but it may be opened in the future. More recs will definitely be added!

Summary
Technically, Pamela had introduced them. It was a bit of a twisting of the facts to look at it that way, but it was how Cas always told the story. Explaining what had actually happened usually led to a list of questions he preferred not to answer, that list growing longer depending on who was doing the asking, and it was just easier to say that Pam had been the catalyst. Generally, he left it at that. Dean, on the other hand, thought the real story was much more interesting.

Summary
Police officer Dean Winchester's next assignment seems easy enough: a protection detail on Assistant District Attorney Castiel Novak, who's been receiving death threats in conjunction with the case that he's prosecuting. Dean's assignment is to keep ADA Novak safe, alive, and in one piece so that he can start his trial against Dick Roman, notorious CEO charged with the death of at least eight people.
With threats that quickly spin out of control, a missing teenage genius, Dean's attraction to Novak, and Novak's mercurial attitude towards Dean--Dean Winchester's next assignment is anything but easy.

Summary
A romantic’s take on Benny’s POV as they scour Purgatory for Castiel, and a little after they find him. I’m sorry, the plot bunny made me. Obligatory gore, it is Purgatory after all, and warm-fuzzies through the eyes of a vampire who’s more human than he liked to believe. R.I.P Benny, Destiel, fluff, one-shot.

Summary
Michael looked at him, "you've been daydreaming about Dean Winchester since freshman year and nothing has happened. This has taken up three years of your life. Do you really want it to consume your senior year too?"
"Michael's right," Gabriel commented. "I've been rooting for you but at this point you either need to make a move, or move on."
Castiel sighed, "I guess you're right."
AKA; Castiel Novak has been in love with Dean Winchester for three years, knowing all the while that Dean is completely unaware of his existence. But that all changes one day when Dean asks for help in math class. Plenty of fun, friendship, and maybe even romance ensues.

“He loved you too, you know?” Jack says.
Cas knows, feels Dean’s love intertwined in the essence of his grace. He feels it in every prayer Dean still lifts up to Heaven unsure if Cas can hear him at all. He knows Dean loves him, knows it like air, like the fabric of the universe.
“He does,” Cas agrees. “Not in the same way I love him, but he loves me and that’s enough.”

Summary
“I screwed up,” Castiel chokes, leaning forward to cradle his head in his hands. His sunglasses slide back and slip to the concrete, but he can’t find the energy to retrieve them. Not now. “God, Dean. What am I going to do?”
“What are you talking about, man?” Dean grabs his phone and starts digging, and Castiel can feel the moment Dean gets it, not because of the curses he’s spewing under his breath but because of the way the air shifts, winding tight around them. “Dude, you—” Dean huffs and tries again. “You told your mom you’re married?”
In order to save face at Gabriel's wedding after a drunken comment to his estranged mother, Castiel and Dean return to Lawrence pretending to be married. So, why is no one surprised?

Summary
Dean enjoys his life in Southern California. He loves his job, has his family close by, and has some pretty awesome friends. There’s nothing in his life to complain about, so why does he feel like something is still missing?
That something comes into focus when Dean meets a dark haired, blue eyed stranger on the beach and is left feeling off kilter after their encounter. What follows is a series of random circumstances in which Dean and Castiel keep finding each other in the same place at the same time, and Dean can’t help but feel drawn in by everything that is Cas… and that’s how the dreams start.
He can’t explain it, but he dreams about Castiel often, in different time periods and of different versions of him - it’s always Cas, but it’s not always his Cas - and when the dreams begin to feel like intense deja vu, he’s not sure what to think.
But all it takes is for one dream to change everything, to force Dean to ask himself the questions he’s been avoiding. One dream will have him wondering what it all means.
