He feels a slight breath disturb his hair and realises belatedly a heavy object resting atop his own head. Breathing slowly in and out. His ears almost twitch at each breath that escapes and lightly dances over it.
He also realises whatever or whoever has him is holding him close. An arm wrapped around his shoulder, Tommy leaning heavily on them.
Slowly, Tommy tilts his head up to see who in the world this person is.

“How do you want to see my power? It isn’t really a for show type of thing unless you’ve got a corpse just laying around.” Tommy says, playing dumb and hoping they don’t know. Crow’s wings twitched. He hadn’t written his will, not that he had much to give but still. If he dies here and Dream ends up taking his vinyl collection he will lose all faith in humanity.
“I can tell,” Crow said ominously, clearly confusing the other non-avians in the room. Tommy shuddered out a breath and looked back at his hands. There was dried blood staining his wrists.

It’s why it hurts so much now, in a house so close to being his home, he could feel it brush past his fingertips as it crumbled, leaving behind a hurt, angry 17 year old.
He was standing in the living room, back against the fireplace, Phil opposite him on the sofa. Techno was standing by the door, almost out of it, and Wilbur was sitting on a chair to his right. It was a ‘family meeting’ and he knows what that means, he’s not a fool, wasn’t born yesterday. They have something to tell him, and deep down he really hopes that this is not where he thinks it's going, that he’s assumed wrong.
“Tommy, we want to adopt you.”

And just like that the world stopped.

"Oh, yeah," Tommy says, pulling another tupperware out of his backpack. He locks eyes with Wilbur, ocean blue meeting chocolate brown. "Dad told me to give some to you, too, since he made so much extra."
Wilbur raises an eyebrow. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Techno sit up straighter. "Never known a therapist to give their clients food." When Tommy pouts, he shrugs. "But, hey, I'm not going to pass up on free lunch. What did he make?"
"Meat," Tommy says simply, he and Techno both watching as Wilbur stabs a piece of sausage onto his fork and raises it to his mouth.

Wilbur Soot was born with the ability to put himself into the mind of any criminal, from a pickpocket to a serial killer. It's this gift (or curse) that's made him the best criminal profiler the FBI's ever had. When he decides to start working on the case of the infamous serial killer "Angel of Death," though, things take a turn for the worse, and Wilbur starts to get lost in his own delusions.

With his wrist braced against the steering wheel, Dream turned to look at Tommy. His cool eyes were piercing. They pinned Tommy to where he sat.
“You know I love you, Tommy.”
Tommy felt very small. “I know.”
“I only want what’s best for you. No one loves you as much as I do.”
“I know.” He knew how hard Dream worked, how much he sacrificed for him, and he was grateful. “I know,” he repeated, a little more firmly this time. “I promise.”
“Good.” Dream didn’t quite sound satisfied, but he jerked his head towards the house anyway. “Get inside.”
Or, Tommy thinks he knows what love is. Then he encounters the Crafts and everything he knows about love is turned on its head.
