The royal family of Antarctic empire isn’t exactly close.
Emperor Philza is always occupied; Tommy hasn’t seen Techno in months, and even if Wilbur is here, their relationship can be described to be strained at best.
The royal family doesn’t need to be close, however, it only needs to be balanced, like the pillars holding the country above their heads – as long as they are strong and steady, the Empire will be too. It’s the principle that held Tommy’s back straight and his shoulders broad through the years of hardships and trials of errors; through yet another formal meeting where his father’s gaze would look past him and where his brother’s words would be filled with poison that makes the deepest parts of his soul ache.
At that time, Tommy couldn't know that his family would find a replacement for him in the face of a commoner boy named Ranboo.

Seven years later, Wilbur was staring at Tommy in disbelief, his hand clutched to his stomach as he felt Tommy’s pain. His legs gave out from under him, onto the same floor Tommy had silently almost-died on, and cried out in desperation. “Tommy! Tell me it didn’t hurt this much for you!”
Tommy sighed sadly, his lungs tight, “I tried to tell you. You told me to grow up.”
And Wilbur remembered.-
Or, Tommy and Wilbur get their powers swapped. And the SBI discovers just how painful Tommy’s powers really are.

Summary
Throughout his life, Tommy has learned a lot of things. He’s learned what it was like to die, to be controlled, to be spat on and left in the dust. He’s learned what it was like to be betrayed, what it was like to be driven into pulling a sword on his own throat.
The majority of the people on the server hate him, pity him, or see him as nothing more than a stupid child. They turn a blind eye when he suffers, when he knows nothing but fear and survival. They only help him when it benefits themselves, not out of true care and concern.
And for a long time, Tommy is fine with that.
Until he has enough.
Until he learns how to bend the strings.

Philza laughed. He laughed so hard that Techno could almost hear his lungs protesting for air.
Despite the rather harrowing circumstances, despite everything that's happened, Techno cracked a smile at hearing that laugh. He'll always smile when hearing it.
After a few moments, they were back in silence.
" Techno?" Philza asked after a beat.
Techno turned towards the older man, silently prompting him to continue.
Philza looked exhausted, yet his gaze was as sharp and expressive as ever, cutting into Techno with its vulnerability.
"If I found you first and we didn't grow to be so... different, could you grow to accept Tommy, Wilbur, and me? Maybe, perhaps one day... love us?"
Techno found that he was unable to respond to Philza's question.
He couldn't give an answer that didn't exist.
So he elected not to respond.
The silence returned, somehow answering Philza's question with painful absolution.

Yeah, that was it, it was definitely a closet of sorts that was cleared out for him. (He tried to ignore the twinge of disappointment he felt. He felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. Nothing.)
The door swung open and Techno’s eyes widened. It wasn’t a closet. It was an actual, modestly sized room, walls painted a creamy white, with a singular light hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm yellow glow on a wardrobe, a desk and a bed. He even had a bedside table. With a night lamp.
