An ultra slow burn Drarry retelling beginning the summer before fifth-year and continuing through the final battle at Hogwarts.
Harry begins to distrust Dumbledore after the events of his fourth year, turning to an unlikely source for knowledge and information. The Occupation of Malfoy Manor by Voldemort leads Draco down a path that diverges significantly from the rest of his family. An event early on sets in motion a large rift in the Golden Trio, ultimately resulting in irreparable damage. Harry learns what real friendship is and who he can trust while making several self-discoveries along his journey to rid the Wizarding World of Voldemort for good.
There are several plot points from the original source material that remain unchanged and are therefore only referenced and implied. While I don't care for the author's personal views, I enjoy her writing and will not be re-writing anything that happens as they appeared in the books. This fic is long enough as it is! There will be author notes for any chapter that includes or alludes to these scenes.
Please make note of the canonical character death tag and remember what happens in Order of the Phoenix.

Summary
Arthur Pendragon and Merlin were literally from two different worlds. One is a prince from a great kingdom and the other a common farm boy from the next kingdom over. These two should have never met.
But that was before they realized their parents were once friends and arranged the two of them to marry when they reached adulthood. That was before Uther turned on magic and Hunith went on the run with her infant son.
Now almost twenty years have passed and these two boys have grown into men. Camelot knights have found Hunith and come to collect her son.

My favourite book of all time. I love this fic so much I can't even find words to describe how much I like it. The problem here is that I can't reread it because of Arthur's character, and after reading the second book of the series, I can't go back to see the old Arthur ever again. I cried so much reading this fic because of Merlin. The way the emotions and the trauma are so well written and real is beyond what words can explain. As a yellow reader, I like to classify this book as the ideal way to write a real trauma response and trauma thinking in both the victim's (Merlin) and the ignorant abuser's (Arthur) minds and internal thoughts. I know it's long and the first book took me a whole month to finish, but it's worth every minute to me. I wish that I could reread it, but I could not relive Merlin's pain and isolation and Arthur's cruelty. I have never read a book that portrays emotion in this accurate way. It's funny how I describe a book about dragons and magic as the realist book I ever read, but this book is.
