“Zagreus?” Melinoë asks, voice quiet but hopeful. She picks up the scythe, making it disappear at her will and deciding to give the weapon back to it’s rightful owner at a later date. Her eyes never leave his. “Are you—”
Zagreus’ smile could almost beat the sun, shining just as bright as the star.
“Melinoë,” he starts softly, tone filled with a quiet understanding of what she wanted to ask. They all step forward, smiling gently down at her. “Let me introduce you to Megaera and Thantaos. My husband and my wife.”

He had done it. Zagreus hadn’t been sure how it was going to go - his father didn’t accept no as an answer, but neither did Achilles. Whether it was just indifference on his father’s part or the fact everyone sort of knew that there was always the possibility of Achilles blowing up again, he had come out victorious.
So, off to a good start. Zagreus would just have to make sure he wasn’t putting Achilles and Patroclus out too much. A week could be a long time, after all.

“Talk to me, Zagreus. What’s really ailing you?”
“It’s nothing much sir. Just have to keep moving. Need to keep moving. I have a job to do after all. Can’t be a disappointment to my father all the time, now can I?” Zagreus sighed, scuffing his feet. His body felt leaden for the first time in ages, reminders of his constant fighting and failing and dying weighing heavily on his mind. He thought back to the argument he had with his father earlier that day-or-night, red-hot tears pressing against the backs of his eyes as his father mocked him, taking advantage of Persephone’s absence. The fighting had kept everything at bay. But this soft quiet, nothing but the sound of breathing and wind and the flowing of the Lethe, threatened to overwhelm him.
