      “I just- I have one question.” He crossed his arms, meeting Neal’s blue eyes. “Just answer me honestly and I guess... I guess I’ll play along. We can go to the office and we’ll both pretend that there’s nothing out of the ordinary. I’ll help you gaslight a bunch of FBI agents if you just tell me this.” Neal raised her eyebrows and dropped the con artist smile in favor of a proper grin. She didn’t say anything, just gestured for him to go on. “Whatever Tim’s off doing, is it... hm, I’m guess I’m less worried about if it’s illegal because it almost definitely is, but... is he safe?”

      “Oh...” Neal stared at him, her smile softened slightly and her posture fell into a comfortable slouch.

      Interesting. Has some unique ideas (eg, "tricksters" in mercenary groups)


    • I think most of the better parts of this fic are at the beginning, up until around chapter 8. The fic is very AU, a bit out there, but interesting-ish. IDK hwo Keller is lol, so that's probably ruining it for me.

      It IS REALLY NICE to see that the White Collar unit actually are supportive and understanding. Good friends TM.

      “Tavern” is code by mercenaries for recruitment centers.


      "I heard a new tavern opened," commented Jones offhand.
      Neal tried to not appear to be listening in. The two were gossiping and had not notice the conman's interest.
      "Don't you mean a bar Jones," Diana scoffed, "It's not the Wild West anymore. The Tavern has closed its doors."
      Jones laughed, "Maybe. But that's what they are calling it, a tavern."
      "What are you, Jones, an eighty year old Englishman?" Diana mocked, "And I guess they are serving warm ale too."
      A tavern? Neal wondered which mercenary group was moving into town. It was a risky venture given that New York had Titans East.
      The term Taverns wouldn't mean much to the FBI. To Neal though, it was a term used for the information and recruitment center for low to mid ranking mercenaries. Unless someone was apprenticed under a mercenary that's where they started out.
      Neal tugged nervously at his gloves. The idea of a tavern in New York made him uneasy. Like conmen and smart thieves they avoided the areas where Capes congregated

      "Well, well, well," Selina's voice called, "Fancy meeting you here."
      The two agents were shocked, but Neal had caught her movement from the corner of his eye. His eyes turned upwards, and the corners of his lips turned into a smile.
      "Selina," Neal said, "Your reputation proceeds you. Neal Caffery."
      He held out his hand to her with a pleasant but fake smile. Neal could see the confusion and hesitation from Diana and Jones. They couldn't decide if the conman was being sarcastic.
      "Neal," she said taking the offered hand, "My apologies, I seem to have mistaken you for someone I knew. You're a well known art thief even in places such as Gotham."
      "Gotham," Neal whistled and pulled his hand free, "That's not a city that would care much about the likes of me. I try to avoid Capes like a good little forger."
      "So you aren't denying it then?" the woman asked.
      "I was caught for bond forgery," shrugged Neal.
      Diana was watching the scene unfold, and her eyes had the slightest gleam of curiosity. This was the most interesting conversation she had seen happen in awhile.
      "Neal's been helping the Feds for awhile," Diana added, "If I had a dollar for every case he helped, I could quit."

    The Gaang did not intend to adopt a strange masked child who may or may not be a spirit, but it's not like they could just leave them on their own. Besides, if they're already traveling to the North Pole they might just run into whoever the child is looking for on the way.

      asdfghjk these two are in a new place, not friends, not quite enemies, boat load of traumatic history, and not toxic but certainly unhealthy relationship.

      - the entire chapter 3 is just Kakashi powering through a mental breakdown. You can tell through the narrative and his thoughts that he is a not okay TM, and just having a 'function-al crashout'. Cue Obito.

      Here’s what needs to be done-

      Zero.

      “If you don’t stop fucking thinking,” Obito says, his eyes hard and cold. “I’m going to punch you.”
      “Stop thinking,” Obito orders. It’s rough and heavy.
      “Well, thinking is all I do,” Kakashi replies, he’s pretty sure he’s just as much an asshole as Obito is.

      Few have tried, none have succeeded. It’s a thing. Eventually Obito will get sick of this. Of his hand on Kakashi’s face and he’ll realize that thinking is the only thing that Kakashi can do just as being a shinobi is all he can live as and then he’ll give up and-

      “Have you heard of the Kyuubi?” Sukea asks, slowly. It feels like a light question, and yet not at the same time. Sukea’s gone back to smiling, but his smile doesn’t feel nearly as reassuring as it did previously.

      “Yeah?” Yuuji’s answer comes out as a sorta question. (...)"It's been gone for centuries, I thought we all knew that."

      Sukea and Tobi exchange gazes again. It’s less intense this time, though. It’s more muted.

      They both don’t answer him for a moment, before Sukea turns back to him with that same, genial smile.
      “Ah, well,” Sukea begins, shooting- once again- gazes filled with meaning at Tobi, his voice is the same pacing as usual. “You see-”
      “His student was the container for the Kyuubi,” Tobi says bluntly.
      There’s a pause.
      Sukea turns to face Tobi.
      Yuuji also turns to face Tobi.
      "We're from the past," Tobi continues.
      “What the fuck,” Yuuji says, with feeling.
