With a low sigh, Richie sits against the wall a couple feet away while Carm’s body overextends, pulls taut, like a rubber band ready to fire. The timer’s ready. Everything’s set in place for Carm to wreck himself.

“Christ, mate, that’s really bad. I’ll get you patched up for now, but that might even be an ER after service.”
Carmy squeezes his eyes shut as Luca tries to cradle his hand.
He flinches back, “Oh, sorry did I do something?”
“No. Sorry, I’m good, Chef,” he says and looks forward.
“Did I hurt it?”
“No, Chef.”
The salt or lemon juice is coming any second now.

Carmy is losing momentum post-season 4. He hasn’t been sleeping, and he grips a boiling pot. It reminds him of leaving Empire.

He flinches and heaves and bites down a groan. His eyes are squeezed shut, brows crunching into one tight point in his head. Don’t make a fucking sound. His head’s going to burst.
“Sit up for a second. Should take your temperature.”
He shakes his head slightly against his arms, and the horizon definitely does flip, and he quietly chokes on liquid.
He tries to speak, has to clear his throat, and can’t imagine it did much when he rasps, “Sorry. I’m-I’m sorry. You don’t have to do anything for me.”
