Summary
Dean eases Baby down the frontage road, trying not to look in the rearview mirror as his home gets smaller and smaller behind him.
He’s done this a hundred times. He’s driven down this road in the soft morning light, heading out to some little town in some distant corner of the country. This is a job like any other.
“It’s not like we’re never coming back,” Cas says from the passenger seat.

Dean and Cas and the open road, to the tune of Led Zeppelin.

a meandering plot of background cases and life on the road as the backdrop for Dean and Cas figuring out how to be themselves, together.

Summary
Just visible through a beam of dirty sunlight, two lovers lay on a rusted metal cot, pressed together on a worn mattress and buried beneath faded and moth-eaten quilts. One of them shifted and woke, sweeping soft eyes over the other, before drifting off again.

just a quick coda, but I like the semi-outsider POV and the story of the farmhouse and all the people who’ve walked through its door

Summary
They're doing that thing again, where Cas is staring at Dean with the intensity of a dog trying to remind his owner that it's past dinner time. Dean's staring right back like the first one to blink is buying the next round. Sam's aware there's a conversation going on that he isn't privy to — and he's used to it, by this point — but it's still rude.
"So, as I was saying," Sam tries to interrupt the resounding silence, "if we can just figure out a — "
"Sure," Dean says, and Sam stutters to a halt, because sure what? "I mean, yeah. Yes. Dude, you don't even have to ask."

Summary
First, before anything, there was want.
In one version of this story, Dean Winchester hasn't stopped moving since the day his father died. He hunts across the country but always comes back to California with the half-hearted hope of visiting Sam at Stanford, and an endless, restless, ceaseless pull to the desert.
In one version of this story, Dean Winchester finds himself in the scorched heat of a Death Valley summer, on a hunt for a ghost. Or a purpose. Or an answer to the question that’s been tugging at his tendons for as long as he’s lived.
In one version of this story, all Dean Winchester has ever done is want, and all Castiel has ever done is wait.

this was a beautiful story with a beautiful setting, a beautiful mystery, a beautiful twist, and a beautiful happy ending
when I started it, I was struck with an eldritch unease, and while the feeling kept its eldritch quality, it became happiness and awe instead
there was something religious in the Destiel of this fic that reminded me of Vashwood’s dynamic

Summary
“I think we should have a garden,” Cas says.
Dean looks up from his beer. He hasn’t had that much to drink, but Cas still has a vague look of unreality about him, a splash of living color that doesn’t fit in the bunker’s echoing stillness. Dean didn’t hear him coming. A lot of the time, Cas is so unobtrusive it feels like Dean has the bunker to himself, with Sam away.
Dean shakes his head to clear it. “A — garden?” he repeats.

an actually slow slow burn ft. Dean being impressively oblivious to his true feelings, everyone else seeing Destiel clear as day, and lots of plants
