So the zombies themselves are NOT contagious as the sickness has already receded? That’s great if you ignore it unfortunately doesn’t really stop the biting problem. Like, even without the sickness making more zombies, human mouths are disgusting and almost always infect a wound anyway. And thats assuming a victim was salvagable.
Oh my god...
Thank you for the comment! I honestly thank you for pointing that out, because it made me realize Maester Corso’s very archaic way of explaining it may not have been as clear as I meant it to be lol. I am definitely going to tweak his dialogue a bit tonight.
Not sure how to point out spoilers but...
- In my version, the "Pale Pox" is what later gets recorded as the Great Spring Sickness. The maesters just recorded a much more sanitized form after wildfire pyres burned everything out and the maesters cleaned up the history.
- The shamblers are still contagious. The key distinction is that the deep wet cough is the first sign someone has contracted the sickness, but they do not become infectious through saliva until the disease fully overtakes the brain and they turn.
- Once that happens, infected saliva getting inside the body, most often through a bite, but also through an open wound or the eyes, is what spreads it..
So yes, the biting is absolutely still a problem. The official version of events just leaves out everything that came after the coughing.
