Also, can I ask—
Is it giving horror, at least? Is the scene with Allyn visually horrific? Any feedback helps. It's my first time tackling a horror-comedy (well, dramedy) fic.
If you are asking about visual horror, aka "gore", then I may be the wrong person to ask. I have been desensitised to all manners of blood splatter years ago through real-life events.
For me personally the "horrific" part was the combination of:
1. Maekar watching another father see his son "die" - this comes from my pre-existing knowledge of Daeron's fate. I do not know if this layer was intended but it's there and, in my opinion, works well.
2. Ashford flashback. I haven't killed my own brother (hopefully never will), but the whole PTSD-adjacent theme is something I can relate to. May not work for other people.
3. Master-of-feasts confusing Allyn's "twitching" for signs of life and therefore not noticing what's actually happening.
4. The fact that all of this plays out (including the fate of Allyn's sword-swallowing buddy) while Aegon, Rhae & Daella are gods know where & Daeron is being suicidally reckless (Aemon is safe-ish at the Citadel and Aerion has the Narrow Sea to thank for).
TL;DR: I think the implications of the scene are scary enough. Does not feel "rushed".
