      We're not sure why this makes it a bad idea! Consensus in OTW chatrooms is that slash makes us happy (along with all fanworks!).

      There is in fact already at least one series about the AO3 and its staff. We'd love to see more!

            Hi!

            Yep, you're absolutely right that we're happy for people to post creative fanworks of all kinds, including fan-created song lyrics. I think lacerta was specifically interested in the question of when we'll actually be able to host works which aren't text-based on the AO3 servers: currently if you want to post multimedia such as fanart or vids you have to host it elsewhere and embed it in your AO3 post. Sadly, this is still further off than we would like: see my reply to lacerta above if you're curious.

              Ah, my apologies. I came here from FFN where there is a rule against lyrics worded so broadly that original lyrics are sometimes reported. Also, in her original question, lacerta didn't specify non-text based works, hence my incorrect presumption.

          Hi there!

          We're still working on putting things in place to host other media, but we anticipate it will be at least a year before that happens. The work we've done over the last year has done some of the groundwork and also taught us a lot in terms of how to build more scalable code, what kinds of sever demands we can expect, etc. In our next wave of active development we plan to rebuild the code for works (this is one of the oldest parts of the code and so it's much more complicated than it needs to be); in the process we'll redesign some aspects of posting and browsing to make them more suited to multimedia works.

          Our new roadmap is currently awaiting approval from the Board; once we post that users will be able to see more of an overview of what needs to be done and what order we'll be doing it in.

          We know that it's taken much longer than originally expected to introduce artwork hosting. It's still high on our priority list, it's just that we didn't anticipate the pace of development and the challenges involved as accurately as we'd thought.
