As I waffled in another reply, I really love Jackson in this fic. When I see Jackson, I acknowledge the fact that he was a douche, but he had issues then. I don't need to list them. But he went to London and sorted out a bit of his problems, maybe he found a girl who didn't put up with his crap and fixed up some of his issues. But it didn't work out so he moved to NYC to work on his law degree (you need to take the bar exam in the state you want to practice law so he needed to be in America for this). And when Stiles showed up at his door, he thought that he might as well try to take him in. The pack was really his only family, so what the heck? And while I know that Jackson's attitude is a part of him, and that he can't stop being an ass no matter how hard he tries, I think he cares about people (in canon he cared about Lydia) and that's kind of how he shows his love.
