i was actually coming to ask this question about vids, but is there a way to filter things by type (writing, drawing, art, whatever else y'all host) besides the additional tags? right now there's no common tag for that sort of thing, which makes it more difficult to find what i'm actually looking for.
There isn't a built-in way of doing that right now, although if users tag their work with media, then our wranglers do wrangle those tags to common tags where they can. So, for example, 'Vid' and 'Fanvid' are both connected to 'Fanvids', and searching for one of those tags will also get you works tagged with the others.
We do have plans to formalise this - before fanart hosting is introduced, we'll be completely redoing our 'post new' form to allow for different media, and adding special tags for different media types. We're still figuring out exactly how it will work, but there'll definitely be a way to filter for just art, or just filks, or whatever.
