Even beyond the world building, the adults in YA books are basically required to be negligent. If Qui-Gon didn’t leave Obi-Wan alone in dangerous situations, then we’d just have an adult Jedi solving all the problems while his Padawan tags along. Or worse, boring missions where nothing goes wrong and there is no danger. In order for the kid protagonist to actually be the hero, he needs to go on adventures alone at least sometimes. Trying to reconcile adult sensibilities with YA fiction makes it easy to portray the adults as evil (see the Evil Dumbledore trope for another example).
