      I mean, he does win in Ocarina of Time, his very first attempt! He only ends up losing because he gets too greedy and overextends himself. The smart thing would have been for him to realize he already got what he wanted (possession of Hyrule) and stop poking the bear. That works as a fatal flaw, though -- he is a genuinely cunning strategist, but he just doesn't know when to stop. You can't stop stage one, but he'll just keep pushing until he inevitably slips up.
