Comment on Brockton's Celestial Forge

  1. 1) Between the teaching perk, the acceleration of the computer core, and One Thing at a Time speeding things up while increasing quality Aisha will be able to get through the basics fairly quickly. Given that Joe is guaranteed to be able to teach her she might pull additional lessons from his duplicates depending on how she takes to things. Given that she’s 13 and this is basically a free powerup I can see her running pretty far with the concept.

    2) Alec was being overly cautious. There’s also a difference between a one-time flash of light to manifest something and maintaining a floating display screen in public. Joe would have known if someone was approaching, but Alec had other things to focus on, so didn’t want to press his luck.

    3) Taylor will definitely see what she can manage from the bag. Expect a mobile silk production facility at minimum. The ninja wire application would absolutely work with the reinforcement. It would need to be anchored into her costume, but since the plates are separate components Taylor is free to modify or rebuild the base costume as much as she wants. You could be seeing everything from Walter style garrot wires to using thicker threads for mobile containment or environmental control. The Reinforcement effect is overpowered and heavily redundant so it can be pushed pretty far. It also reinforces her body, meaning things like falls or sudden impacts aren’t going to hurt her. Given the fact that this is Taylor you’ll probably see her taking advantage of that by pouncing down from the roofs of buildings. It’ll take a while before she works out everything she can do with the effect, but she’ll definitely push it as far as she can.

There’s also one possibility that Joe hadn’t considered because he hasn’t worked with parahuman effects that much. When he got the Dragon’s Pulse he noticed he could feel Taylor’s connection to her swarm. There’s an effect from the way the QA shard connects to the insects that effectively make them part of her body, at least for certain magical effects. The armor provides a reinforcement effect to Taylor’s body, and thanks to the nature of that effect there’s a real chance she might be able to push it through to parts of her swarm. It’s the consequence of hooking a mystic code up to what is essentially a massive magitech creature rather than just a normal person.

    4) Oh yeah, Garment is thrilled about this development. The only downside is the fact that their collaborative projects are too iconic to show to anyone outside the workshop. Also, as much as she might want to, she’ll probably never be able to officially hire Joe as one of the models for her public work.

    5) Joe has basic understanding of Runes and exceptional talent to develop his skill, but he’s still a beginner. Right now he’s a bit behind Hearthstone in terms of knowledge, but he has more stamina and any runestones he makes will be of unfathomable quality.

    6) Boredom can still be an issue when Joe is teaching someone, as can mental exhaustion or lack of focus. Some of the problems that Aisha previously had with focus were addressed in the healing, so basic focus shouldn’t be an issue. Joe is fiat backed to be able to teach no matter what, but he also has enough skills to handle things and let Aisha absorb the information properly. There will be breaks and other topics mixed in. It will still probably be a heady experience for Aisha. Joe might be able to mentally handle several days of accelerated time, but she still has a human perspective.

    7) Joe has all the skills necessary to be a doctor, but still feels weird about claiming that title both because of his original trigger and the responsibility associated with it. He might default to medical behavior in a hospital setting but otherwise doesn’t instantly think of himself as a doctor. Another factor is the limits on what he can actually do. Being restricted from distributing cures is hard for Joe, so putting that skillset aside until he either needs it or can cut loose with it is his best way of managing things.
