I think that's what appealed to me about it, it is a very silly contrived trope but like ABO, there's some interesting things in there to work with! I'd read a succession fic with it last week and while it was a great fic, I felt like even with the extreme shame associated with developing an embarrassing lovesick disease, those people had access to top tier medical care, and were also inherently unloveable, and it didn't really address it. It got me thinking about our two, how two very driven people who break the rules constantly would deal with it.
