Comment on The Hidden Island; or, The Eyebrows of Fate

Oh, I love this! I love the similarity between Beauty and the Beast; I was honestly surprised (and delighted!) that Lucinda didn't fall for the ambiguously beastly Ugolino in the end. I think I've seen too many stories where female leads simply brush off things like kidnapping, menacing with weapons, and unlawful imprisonment as minor details that should never get in the way of true love. Hooray for Lucinda being more sensible than that!

And kudos to Ugolino for accepting the word "no" from a woman. I don't usually see male leads doing that in romances, never mind antagonists.

Also, I love the indecent statues. AND THE TOPIARY.

    1. Thank you! I've always wanted to have a story where the heroine doesn't end up with the gentleman of deserved ill repute in the end. I mean, he's always hot, and often clever, but these are not sufficient virtues to outweigh kidnapping/murdering/being extremely rude at town parties. The heroine can do better!
