Egon didn’t really like dogs all that much. He knew better than to say so in casual conversation, for some reason people treated the idea of not loving dogs as on par with murdering school buses full of children for fun and profit. It wasn’t like he hated them– he recognized that they were animals who operated on biological instinct shaped by tens of thousands of years of human domestication and selective breeding, and they were definitely cute in theory. It was just that as soon as they started jumping and slobbering all over him or barking in that way that vibrated in his jawbone, that theory began to show some cracks.

Chuuya's head whips around; Mori at the desk had been enough of a shock, but Dazai, curled up lazily in an armchair with a book, looking like a petulant housecat as he stands up, still covered in bandages with one eye visible, is enough to make Chuuya feel almost nauseated.
"Chuuya," Dazai says, the word a sing-song and nothing like the monotone way he'd said it when he was the Boss, "come on."
