Summary
At first, it’s small enough to survive unnoticed. Missed therapy appointments. Shaking hands blamed on exhaustion. Controlled substances that don’t quite add up. The kind of inconsistencies emergency departments are built to absorb without looking at too closely.

What starts as quiet suspicion turns into something heavier as Abbott begins to unravel beneath the pressure of overnight shifts, chronic pain, and an addiction he thought he buried years ago. And as the distance between them grows sharper and harder to ignore, both of them are forced to confront how much of their lives have quietly come to depend on the other staying functional.
