Life could be so easy, were it not for the new, slightly older student named Victor that keeps coming to his open office hour and whose smile repeatedly makes Yuuri forget who he is.
In which Victor is a world-famous actor, looking for purpose, going back to university, and Yuuri Katsuki, Ph.D. student, is completely oblivious.

Sure, it’s not his dream but it’s simple with few surprises and little stress. That is until a world renowned Shakespearean Scholar, Dr. Viktor Nikiforov, stops in one day and reminds Yuuri just why he applied in the first place. When Viktor happens upon an old uncompleted paper Yuuri had been working on, he realizes just what a genius Yuuri is, and vows to help him not only get in, but graduate with top honors. However, just being Yuuri’s mentor isn’t really what Viktor had in mind.

"Where did you even find a copy of my syllabus?" Yuuri frowns at him. But then holds up a hand when Viktor opens his mouth. "No. Actually, I don't want to know."
"I told you, I need to learn everything about you," Viktor says.
"And that involves memorizing my syllabus and reading my curriculum," Yuuri says slowly.
"Naturally."
At least this is better than the time Viktor had kept him awake with demands to know his favorite color and all the places he'd ever visited and a list of his favorite actors. Yuuri had had to draw the line at teaching Viktor how to write his name in kanji at one in the morning.

But they're not dating. Yuuri reminds himself of this all the time. Sure, Viktor hugs him freely, but Yuuri is never sure whether him initiating a hug will be welcome. They share dinners and go out to eat, but that's something Yuuri does with Phichit also. Viktor presses his lips to his forehead and touches his face, but they've never actually kissed. Viktor's just a tactile person. All Russians are probably like that.
