What starts out as strictly platonic quickly sets out to sea, and is immediately steered towards the rocks.

If you want a high quality summary, watch Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. Also the plot may be slightly easier to understand once you have the world in your head. -
