Summary
He couldn’t forget the look on Wei Wuxian’s face when he saw the missing appendage, a look that, while only lasting a few seconds, ached of both cold distance and horror. Jiang Cheng had never seen him give a look so perturbed; it was as if the boy had encountered some wild canine on the run.

Wei Wuxian pressed so close to the window his face nearly flattened against the glass.
“Those are numbers,” he breathed hoarsely. “60:00. And there’s... text. I can’t read it from here.”
Before anyone could stop him, he threw open the latch, shoved the window upward, and leaned halfway outside.
Jiang Cheng lunged forward and grabbed a fistful of his clothes before he could topple out the window. By the time he dragged him back inside, Wei Wuxian had gone pale as death. Freezing air spilled into the room, and Jiang Cheng slammed the window shut before forcing out, through a throat tight with fear, “Well? What did you see?”
Everyone stared at Wei Wuxian in horrified silence. He looked genuinely incapable of finding the words. Out of everything that had happened tonight, this was the most terrifying sight of all: Wei Wuxian speechless.
“It says...” he whispered at last. “‘What will the final minutes of your life look like?’”
Silence swallowed the room whole.
Then he added quietly:
“It’s a timer. 60:00 is a countdown.”
One hour.
The final minutes of your life.
Exactly the amount of time remaining until midnight.
