“Hey Ev,” he whispered. “Can I touch you?” Evan lifted his head and looked at Jared. It took a moment for the question to process. Evan nodded. “I’m going to put a hand on your back, okay?” Jared, having gotten permission, touched Evan’s cold body and began rubbing small circles on Evan’s back. Evan shivered.
His breathing, for no reason that Jared can think of, got faster. “Breathe,” Jared murmured. Stupid, yeah, but he couldn’t think of any other things to say. “You’re not alone. I’m right here.”
“J-Jared,” Evan stuttered as he put a hand on his chest.
“Focus on your breathing, buddy.”
