Merle could comfort him or treat him like shit, there was no difference either way. It was just something Daryl had to feel, sit with, and make it through until it didn't feel so overwhelming. And Merle at least gave him the opportunity to do that. He just held him until he wasn't shaking so badly, then murmured in his ear that he loved him. As always, it felt like both the best and worst thing he could say.
"Then don't leave again." Daryl found himself murmuring, for the millionth time in his life.
"I won't." Merle replied like always, but added something new. "S'long as you don't either."
"I won't." Daryl echoed quietly. "Til the end."
"Til the end?" Merle hummed, like he was mulling the words over on his tongue, and seemed to decide he liked how they tasted. "'Kay, then. That's how it's gonna be."
His strong arms tightened around him, and Daryl didn't struggle. Instead he relaxed, unconcerned with the anaconda tangled around his body. He closed his eyes, feeling just as breathless as if he were prey, but also finally feeling somewhat content. He leaned into his unrelenting body heat, and Merle's words echoed in his brain.
"Just me n' you, baby brother. Til the end."

She cuts herself off with a disbelieving laugh. She doesn't know. It's all so overwhelming she can't piece it together. The name Pomni's using for her doesn't feel real, even though there's a part of her saying that it is. Nothing feels real.
How did she end up here? What happened? What year is it? Wasn't she on the street? Didn't she come here because—
"I don't know," she cries, louder. "I don't know who I am! I don't know!"

Aemond did not laugh. He watched rooms like an inventory of what he intended to own. He had no dragon. Aegon had Sunfyre—golden, beautiful, and his—and sometimes he caught Aemond watching with an expression quieter and more patient than jealousy.
"You should try," Aegon had told him, meaning pick a dragon before you ruin yourself wanting the impossible.
Aemond looked at him. "I am trying. I'm just not ready."
Aegon hadn't known what to do with a six-year-old who spoke like that, so he laughed. Aemond's expression closed like a door. They never spoke of it again.
That night, Aegon lay in bed listening to the city breathe, feeling the specific shape of a wanting—not for a thing, but a way out. At eight, he understood his life would ask more of him than he intended to give.
