What is a world to do when its purpose has long passed?
When steady state has been reached and heat death looms overhead?
When the very fabric of reality begins to run dry?
One thing is for sure: it is not to die.

An AU approaches its inevitable deletion. A world can only last for so long, after all, and this one has long outstayed its welcome. Its creator, known only as "The Developer," no longer exists.
Yet, as ticks pass and the simulation continues, The Developer's avatar, Checkball, finds themselves awakened with newfound free will. Given nothing but an unsettling feeling of impending deletion and the narrator of a story unwritten, they refuse to accept that their world must die. And they will find a way to save it.
They still have hope for this world.

“Simon?” Grace tries out the name, the syllables rolling of his tongue. To his surprise, Simon looks up. He looks scared and confused, regardless of how harsh his bark may come off or unnatural his eyes are. Grace longs to help him.
“Can you c’mere, please? So I can show you proof I’m not lying to you?” Grace asks with a new wave of patience. Simon looks away and doesn’t move, choosing to glare at the wall.
“I don’t bite,” Grace reassures.
“What if I do?” Simon warns, tone too soft to be threatening.
Grace sits down with a grunt, crisscrossed on the floor from where he stood with the laptop settled on his lap.
“Then that’s a risk I’ll just have to take.”

Just as swiftly, Sakura realizes that saving the world was clearly a job meant for other people like Sasuke and Naruto. New life, new attitude.
One moment Kakashi is happy with his father, the next he is dead. He can't sleep. Kakashi trains himself into the ground. He still can’t sleep. He wants to be better than his father. He still cannot sleep. The village hates him because of what his father had done. Sleep eludes him. Things change when he runs into a house.
One moment Minato is trying to figure out his student while trying to balance his duties, and then next Kakashi flipped his entire demeaner. He is still a sarcastic little menace, but he’s far more open to Minato’s teachings. He knew he made mistakes with his student, but this change in life happened while he was away.
As in: Sakura decided to become the problem, Kakashi is the problem and the solution, and Minato is the solution.

Of course, this is harder said than done when it turns out that the wonderful creatures called Pokémon have no intentions of leaving her alone. Specifically, an action-first-thoughts-later clefairy named Nebula who serves as a guardian fairy for a Pokemon exclusive refuge against humans, and a timid Yanma named Yammy who each become a lot more involved in her life than she might have liked.
Also, something brews behind the scenes. In the greater forest, there have been rumors of Pokémon much smaller than the typical members of their species. Is this some natural event, or does it have a human cause? And how does it relate to the existence of Borrowers? A mystery is at foot, and all of it involves Samantha and her missing parents somehow.

The pendant inside of the SM-13 is an apple sapling instead of a maple one, and neither Ava nor Simon die in their submarines. Naturally, everything changes.
Now, Simon has to navigate staying alive after fighting for it so desperately, even if it's harder to fall back into regular life than he'd anticipated, and Ava needs to figure out how to get the COI off her back and keep her ship without being demoted. Or, you know. A regular Tuesday.
