"I think I'll pass," he replied in an almost disgustingly corny manner as he turned his back on him and walked toward the weapons rack to put his daggers away.
Someone coughed to mask a laugh and someone else cursed under their breath, and Jimin let a smile appear on his lips. He knew that as the king's consort, he should show him the utmost respect, and that was exactly what he had been prepared to do before setting foot in that godforsaken kingdom. But after learning how the court ran things, he felt nothing but disgust for most of the people he had met up to that point.
"That was not a request, Jimin."
"You put a crown on my head, your majesty," he reminded him. "I am not one of your subjects."
He managed only one more step before he was forced to stop. A strong hand wrapped itself around his wrist and a second later his back hit the sculpted chest of the male behind him.
Jimin froze, his breath catching in his throat as Jeongguk's other hand grabbed his chin.
"I'm still your king."

I generally associate this author with light-hearted humor, and that's not at all what's served up here, but rather a dreamy, shadowy fairy tale. Wei Wuxian is subsumed by the Yiling Patriarch, kills most of the cultivators at Nightless City, dismisses the remainder, is resistant to Lan Wangji's stoic plea, and vanishes. Somehow, lwj is left utterly alone, in a field of the dead. For the next two months he labors, exhausted and malnourished and dissociated, burying 3000 corpses.
He collapses before he can finish, and awakens in a castle, being treated by Wen Qing. Lwj is very weak, and the air of dissociation doesn't diminish as he begins to explore. Wen Ning is there, and Jiang Wanyin, and even little A-Yuan. But there's no sign of wwx, and the castle is more sentient than not, and the walls are warm to the touch.
