The Eidolon is meant to be two things: a comfortable home for its passengers, and a floating laboratory for humanity’s brightest minds.
When contact with its sister ship, the Axiom, is suddenly lost, Eidolon's autopilot NULL and its enforcer VOID step up to the plate to keep everything running on their own.
As centuries pass, routines turn into questions, questions turn into something like consciousness, and between malfunctioning systems, questionable decisions, and growing bonds neither of them fully understand, NULL and VOID are kept more than busy.
