upon reaching home, aether had taken her to a field of white flowers with a single blue petal after a day’s worth of rest, and made a promise to her in response to her outburst back at the dinner table, to which she responds incredulously;
“but who else will be my home if not you?”
and yet—
as the lumine of today stares at the tall white door in the midst of the everchanging galaxies in front of her, she takes a hesitant step forward, then looks behind her as if to assure herself that she’s not alone. aether stares back at her with a small grin, and she too smiles back softly out of habit more than anything, but the shakiness in her heart still remains.
it suddenly occurs to her to reach for her hairpiece, the one that’s been with her for what seems like forever now, and she feels the ghost of an embrace, the faint scent of apples and dandelions, hears the soft whispers of a song long forgotten, and a warm press on her forehead in the midst of a cool breeze, and she sighs, comforted.
she presses a kiss to her immortalized flower and draws her sword, the magenta-colored one from a world left behind, and turns the knob—
she wonders if that statement still rings true.
