Every so often, they caught one another's eyes. For just a moment the crowd would dissipate, leaving just a corridor of sight between the two of them. Shiv couldn’t fight the smile that found her features, despite Nate’s wicked expression, and for the few milliseconds that they could get away with staring at each other, they would both feel that swell of music, and temperature, and emotion.
And then they would drag their eyes away, back to their respective conversations, and nod like they hadn’t been briefly swept away to another world inhabited by just the two of them.
