Summary
If love worked like the system, Heather would have found a work-around way to marry a woman even before it was legal, acceptance in her small minded Middle America state and somehow a way to conjure a child out of thin air. As is, however, love proves to be way more difficult to find and maintain than power and success, even within the still extremely misogynistic climate of late 2000s Ohio. Nevertheless, not even careers are exempt from being influenced by matters of the heart and Heather will have to find a way to cope when the biggest opportunity of her life comes with the most painful baggage.
Many moons ago, Heather and Veronica promised each other their futures. A compromise so they could both be happy and, most importantly, together. Time shattered that illusion and they both went their separate ways. 20 years later, Heather is the senior assistant prosecutor investigating the case of a murder in her very own district. The catch is, the main suspect’s girlfriend is her once-upon-a-time high school sweetheart. On top of that, she will soon find out that the case may be linked to a series of murders crossing state borders.
