Shane and Ilya are both barely awake when they leave the house for early morning practice. It happens. It's normal. Half the team is usually asleep.
What's not normal is turning up in each other's jerseys.
The entire team proceeds to be completely not normal about it.

Summary
After Shane gets traded to Ottawa, Ilya and him try to keep the relationship a secret by leaning into the rivalry that has followed them around for the entirety of their careers.
But they underestimate just how competitive they are and it gets so bad that the team has to call an intervention.
They try to pass it off as a mandatory team building session.
It does not go well.
No one is surprised.

Summary
"Shane Hollander," he said. "We are lying in the very comfortable bed you bought for me to fuck you in, in the very weird condo you bought, also for me to fuck you in."
"It's an investment," Shane grumbled.
"And I have just fucked you, I think, very well," Rozanov continued. "At least I do not remember any complaints."
He swung his body easily across the bed, pinning Shane in place.
"No complaints," Shane huffed, almost a laugh. "No complaints here."
"So why the fuck," Rozanov said into the soft skin beneath Shane's ear, "are you asking me about other men?"
------
Or: Shane thinks what he needs to do is fuck another man. Just to see. Just to know. Just to test if it's only Rozanov who can make him feel this way.
But he has no idea how to go about fucking a stranger without it immediately becoming a story in the tabloids.
And he can think of only one person to ask for advice. So, in a post-coital haze, he makes the obvious move: he asks Ilya Rozanov, his extremely casual fuckbuddy, for advice on how to pick up other men.

Summary
“Yeah, I know about Jane,” Hollander said, with a murderous glance at Ilya. “But I’m surprised to hear Rozanov *talking* about Jane.”
“He hasn’t told us much,” Harris said. “Just that she’s beautiful, rich and talented.”
“And a freak in the sheets,” Ilya said, solemnly. “You cannot leave out the freak in the sheets.”
_____
Ilya Rozanov is in a very good mood at the All-Stars weekend, when Marlow starts ragging on him about his mysterious Montreal girl, Jane. The Centaurs, of course, have never heard of her.
Ilya starts praising Jane to the moon and back ... just in time for Shane Hollander and his Voyageurs teammates to stroll up.
Hayden Pike nearly has a heart attack. J.J. laughs and points out that Shane has a mysterious girlfriend, too. And Shane, to Ilya's surprise, leans right in. Even when Marlow asks ... well, whose secret girlfriend is hotter?
(Hypothetically set after the All-Stars Game during Book Six/The Long Game, but I didn't make an effort to match the canonical events at the game. No real spoilers for the Long Game, I think?)

Summary
"Shane, do you have any comment on allegations that your on-ice performance declined after you started your affair with Rozanov? Have you seen the blogger who has been re-analyzing your stats and making that case?"
Shane wrinkled his brow. "Don't call it an affair," he said, reflexively. "That makes it sound like we were cheating. And no, no comment."
"I will comment," Ilya said. "It is ridiculous."
"I'm sorry," Shane said, his brain just now catching up to the second half of the question. He really hated the word "affair." It had distracted him. Too much, apparently. "Did you say something about my stats?"
----
Or: Shane had no intention of giving the press any information about when he and Ilya started hooking up. Ever. It was so thoroughly nobody's business.
But what was he supposed to do, just let people be wrong about his stats?
(Set post-Long Game, with vague Long Game spoilers.)
