   With their track record of hypotheses tending to end trumped up, of course Pearl had dismissed their newest about moths mistakin' lamplight for starlight or whatever as a bunch of blarney.

   But that was before she saw the Stars.

   The reason moths are suicidally attracted to flames is because they mistake it for starlight. Pearl didn't believe it until she met the Stars and found herself inexplicably drawn to him, fittingly enough, like a moth to a flame.
