Mikasa jumped down from her branch, landing next to Armin. She dusted herself off with the air of someone who’d just gone down a vaguely entertaining slide at the playpark, and started towards where the horses were.
Well, where the horses were supposed to be.
“Where’d they go?” Armin heard himself ask dumbly. Mikasa inspected the mud carefully.
“West,” she said, pointing to the tracks. “Long gone by now. I don’t think we’ll catch up."
“We should try anyway,” Armin decided.
“It’s not far,” said Mikasa, in an attempt to raise Armin’s spirits. It wasn’t a lie, but it was certainly an oversimplification of the truth.
Armin smiled. “Alright. South, right?”
“South,” Mikasa agreed, and they set off through the trees.
OR: Armin & Mikasa get separated from the group and must make their way back across titan country armed with only Armin's brain, the power of friendship - oh, and Mikasa's swords.
