Look, the thing about Benny was he knew when to quit. It might not seem like it, with how much he gambled, but he did.
He knew when to stop flirting if someone was uninterested, he knew how long to stay at a party before the cops were called, and he knew enough of the difference between someone looking for a sneaky blowjob and someone looking for a kidnapping victim to run the other way. Most importantly, he knew what to avoid so he could stay free.
At least he thought he did.

He watches Chuuya fall asleep, slow and soft, in small bits. He is so beautiful, and he is mine. All mine.

He is mine. He will always be mine now, after these things.
Dazai thinks, for a moment, that he might not ever get to feel things, or see the world the way most people do, or find a reason to live. But he can live for this, for him. For this boy. He does not care about birds or parks or trees or people, does not feel all that much when he sees the sunrise or sunset or the stars and the moon. He does not like dogs or children. He does not like the world.
But he likes Chuuya. He likes the way Chuuya looks when he is looking at all these things.

Summary
Murakami was never meant to exist. He knew this ever since he showed his mother an armful of flowers, and she burst into tears.
He didn't have the time to painstakingly render every detail in the oil painting of his life. Focusing on the moments he actually liked was more preferable.
It was understood from a young age that he was going to die after he turned fifteen. His friends weren't as on-board with that truth as everyone else in his life were. They weren't taking this lying down.

I love them. I LOVE THEM!!!
I want them to be happy, and safe, the dedication that Tanaka and Orochi have towards Murakami is so sweet and tragic. Really being doomed by the nature of your birth is such a fun trope, and I love this take on it.
