Dorian smells like home.
Like the wind blowing high up off the cliffs at Zephra’s edges, like the currents and eddies that flow through the portal from the Elemental Plane of Air. Like the first time Orym had ever ridden a Skysail, fifteen years old and riding high on adrenaline as much as wind, with Reigel’s laughter caught out in the air behind him.
He can’t stop thinking about it, even when he should be sleeping.

Now, Jean had never been to Kim’s apartment. He didn’t need to. They shared a boyfriend, but nothing past that, the triangle didn't connect. And the apartment itself was exactly as expected. Orderly and clean, not quite so clean as to be close to godliness, but clean enough. All very Kim like.
In fact, the only thing not Kim-like was his clothes.
Because he was, in fact, wearing shorts.
Not like, basketball shorts, not long shorts to the knee, not cargo shorts.

ENCYCLOPEDIA: An old Ubi Sunt? tradition. It’s a symbol of devotion, of the sickness-and-health part of marriage vows.
LOGIC: You’re never going to get married. You’re sure of that. It’s not legal, and anyway Kim wouldn’t enjoy the spectacle of it. This is as close as you’ll get.

Summary
On the porch is possibly the biggest man Astarion has ever seen. His sun-kissed skin is browned and freckly, and his arms and chest are broad with muscle. There is a sizable scar on his face and there is also a large vine-like red tattoo that extends from his hairline to his well-defined jaw. He is wearing a simple t-shirt and trousers, and his soft brown hair is pulled into a half up-do– a suitable ensemble for doing manual labor, or other physical work.
He grins down at Astarion, warm and friendly.
Astarion is immediately suspicious. Nobody smiles at him like that unless they want something from him. (Okay, okay. Maybe those are the trust issues talking. He can hear his friends’ and therapist’s voices ringing in his head, reminding him that there are, in fact, good people in the world.)
So he makes himself wear a polite smile. “Can I help you?”
