Summary
He thought of all people they would cower from the bastard with the skull mask who joined Task Force 141 a year after John, but no — it was John who they were afraid of more than half the time.
Soap didn’t like Simon Riley. There was something about the man that unnerved him, something in those golden eyes of his. Too seeing, too knowing. He hated it.
John trusted Captain Price’s decision, knew the man didn’t bring people onto their team lightly. If he trusted Ghost, John would, too. But Ghost wasn’t the trusting type in return.

Or, Soap and Ghost learn the in and outs of one another after the alone mission. -

Summary
He expects Simon to kiss him, to be rough, to pull him off the wall and throw him on the shitty mattress. Instead, the man leans forward, nose skimming the column of John’s throat, a single kiss placed just behind his ear.
“God, Johnny —” Simon murmurs, hands looping around his waist to hold him close. “— fucking drive me mad.

Or, feelings finally snap between soap and ghost when they find themselves snowed in at a safe house in the mountains. ;) -

Summary
“M’ not looking to publish, Price —”
“Send it, Simon,” Price insisted, that gleam turning into something entirely too serious. It was that unyielding type of faith Price had in him, the kind that made Simon think he could do impossible things. He’d spent years as a sniper, an assassin, a ghost on the field, but this — something so vulnerable and fragile, a peek at the childhood Simon had endured, was probably the most frightening of all.
And so, without having any idea of what he was doing, Simon sent it.

Summary
“That’s not bourbon, is it?” John says with half a sneer, earning a small smile from the man in return, eyes full of mirth.
“Only the best,” the man easily responds, taking a sip just to prove a point.
“For a good ol’ boy,” John replies easily enough, watching the man's pink tongue dart out, licking a stray droplet.
“A good boy, hm,” the man echoes, his gaze traveling slowly down John’s frame, a maddening descent. “I don’t know about me,” he adds, a bit softer. “But you, on the other hand —” The man’s mouth curves, the sharp flash of teeth, like a predator lying in wait. “You look like a good boy, yeah?”

Or, John MacTavish says he isn't gay. That is, until he meets a man named Simon at a gay nightclub and realizes, maybe he is. -

Summary
Johnny knew that being a dog owner would come with some limitations and challenges. But he had to admit, scaring off half the city's groomers came with some perks. It had brought him to Simon. Ex-military like himself, Simon definitely preferred the company of animals over their owners. But Johnny tried not to get his hopes up when Simon offered to show him how to groom his dog himself, wouldn't mind coming over to his flat to show him how to use the tools he had at home.

Summary
John: So, if you're not here for a relationship, what are you here for? ;)
Simon: I don't think most people on this app are here for relationships.
John: Lmao, you're not wrong
Simon: And I don't assume you're here for something like that either
John: Nope, just looking for some fun
~~~
How long will it take for "fun" to turn into more? Perhaps not as long as you'd think.
Summary
Ghost was still sore. Most specifically, about the fact that the moment he had tried to get back to Soap, still in bed in his motel room back in Chicago, they had been told they needed to leave almost immediately. Bundled into a plane and sent home to sit, stony faced, at a debriefing that was miserable and tedious. One which even Laswell looked annoyed to be at, which Ghost chalked up to the fact that she had a beautiful wife, and a crusty little dog that needed walking, waiting at home.
Soap had glanced at him across the table, bottom lip jutting out until he caught himself and it was sucked back up into an expression that resembled something a bit more professional. But, Simon could see it in his eyes. The disappointment.
-----
a sequel to caught me gawking, set directly after Ghost and Soap have returned, post-shagging and post-post-final MW2 mission in Chicago. Soap's in a jam and Ghost is in the shit because despite his neatly defined outward flaws, like being incomprehensible half the time, he's quite enjoying Soap's company.
