"You, firefighter Buckley, are now Interim Captain for A-shift, station 118, effective immediately.” Buck pursed his lips, seeing the hard look in the man’s eyes telling him to keep his mouth shut. “When all of them, Captain Nash, Paramedics Wilson and Han, and Firefighter Diaz, the whole A-shift clique, are cleared medically, you will no longer be part of their team.”
“Are you temporarily promoting me and firing me at the same time?” Buck asked incredulously.
“No, I am not. You will no longer be part of their team, because you will report directly to me. You will become a floater at whatever station I tell you you are floating at for whatever duration I direct. You have the most qualifications and certifications of any firefighter in LA, only missing your paramedic certification. I was informed you would pass if you ever actually applied for and took the exam.”

“Not if you want to remain a member of the LAFD.” Chief Simmons said with finality. They stared at one another for a few more tense moments before the Chief straightened up and left Buck alone in the Captain’s office.

"Slander!" Buck yelled, gesturing wildly to the TV screen and sending the potato chips he was about to stuff his face with flying. At least the mess vanished before Eddie could even blink.
"We are not wearing skimpy, see-through clothes! " The Genie gave Eddie a speculating look. "That is, if the master wishes it..."
Eddie sputtered.
"No?" Buck pouted. "Bummer."

“A week,” Eddie sighed. “We can do this, right?”
Eddie’s gaze was pleading, needing assurance and comfort. His eyebrows were pinched in the middle of his forehead and Buck wanted to reach out and smooth it out with his thumb. Instead, he said, “’Course we can. We’ve faced tsunamis, beenados, earthquakes, broken dams… hey, where do we think the Diaz Parents Staying For A Week ranks?”
“Most likely to end in death,” Eddie muttered.
Buck clicked his tongue as he pulled the bowls from the cabinet for the salad, “That’s the lightning strike, actually.”

He doesn’t think, it’s instinct to push Eddie so hard that he stumbles to the ground as the first ear-shattering sound of bullets being propelled towards them goes off. He should be thinking about himself he reckons, when the first bullet enters his body, and he should probably think about how many more breaths he has to take when the second enters.
However, all he can think is that Eddie is scrambling to get off the ground, so Buck lunges forward and tackles him back to the ground, and smothers him.

“Eddie? What’s wrong? There’s no way I missed something, look, we went over everything thrice—”
Oh, god, Buck has retrieved his clipboard from wherever in Eddie’s house he’d stashed it last time. He’s waving it around as he speaks.
“Information about my spouse,” Eddie says blankly.
Buck looks confused. He flips through the pages on his clipboard. “No, look, we definitely-”
“Not Shannon,” Eddie interrupts. “My current spouse.”
Buck, understandably, looks even more confused. Then he seems to actually comprehend what Eddie is saying, and he shoots him a devastated look. “You’re- you’re married? When? To whom?”
“I… I didn’t know I was married. I don’t. I don’t think I am? But they seem to think I am. And they think…” Eddie pauses. Wets his lips. “I think… I think they think I’m married to you.”
Buck and Eddie get married the night of Chimney's bachelor party. Buck and Eddie do not know they got married the night of Chimney's birthday party. At least, they don't until months later, when Chris' new school asks Eddie for documentation of his spouse: one Mr. Buck Diaz.

Buck is no stranger to being alone. He spent years fending for himself after leaving the house he grew up in, and even the years before that, he didn’t really have anyone.
He thought he had found a family with the 118. He had a captain he came to see as a father, found a mother in Athena and a wider family from his coworkers and theirs. Buck even thought he might have a chance at something more with the man who was his best friend and his son. He should have known better.-+-
A post-lawsuit fic (kind of) where Buck leaves and never really had any intention of coming back. The universe has different plans for him though.

“Sex tape.” Chimney and Hen say at the same time.

After a call leaves Buck presumed missing, the 118 gather in his loft to find comfort together. They didn't know that comfort would be in the form of a falling apart box, filled with videos of his time traveling the country, trying to find his home. A 'Buck Begins Again' no one asked for.

After the two of them work it together, Buck finds a friend in Eddie, who it turns out is enrolled in the LA fire academy. It turns out that Eddie is just as good at helping Buck work through his shit as he is at helping Eddie work out on the bag. Finding his footing after Abby left was hard, but Buck's starting to think that figuring out what he feels for Eddie is going to be even harder.

Maddie rolls her eyes with a fond smile. "I assume there would be other evidence."

Eddie turns his face up from his phone and the neon lights paint his face in greens and blues, those dark eyes of his catching reflections in a way that makes them look almost ethereal.

His fingers tense against the brick at his back.
Oh, it doesn’t matter.
None of it really matters, because Eddie smiles at him. It dimples his cheeks and turns his eyes into half-moons. Buck’s own mouth lifts in a helpless mirror of it, joy blooming in his chest.
Eddie closes the distance between them in a few casual strides, one hand hooked in his pocket and the other holding his phone to track their Uber. He stops just short of Buck’s feet. It’s not close enough, but at least Buck can feel the heat of him now.

Eddie is working hard on figuring himself out, getting a life, and also reestablishing contact with Buck after worrying about them drifting apart and their friendship changing. Realizing that sometimes people misunderstand his relationship with Buck should not be the shock it is. Also, if Chris could stop launching verbal sneak attacks on him, he'd appreciate it.
Meanwhile, Buck's learning to parent a toddler while not at all being insecure about something said by one Margaret Buckley. He's just studiously avoiding the word 'Parent' like the plague, and otherwise doing his damn best.

If Buck had a nickel for every time someone left him their kid in their will without his knowledge—well, he’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice now.
