Summary
Mártires de Cristo is a sheltered free religious community seated on Cerro de la Silla, the mountain overlooking the cityscapes of Monterrey. Spearheaded by the three Preachers, its inhabitants, known as Martyrs, live in peace and happiness under the belief they are protected by a Heavenly Savior, so long as they sacrifice two souls to her every month in a process known as "True Martyrdom."
Among the Martyrs are Paulina, her older sister Daniela, and younger sister Alejandra. While Daniela and Alejandra are heavily indoctrinated in the ways of Mártires de Cristo, Paulina is not and is often regarded as an outcast for her dislike and suspicion of the Preachers' religion.
When Paulina discovers that Mártires de Cristo is actually a front for something so much more insidious - and that the Preachers only crave power and money in the most sickening ways possible - she finds herself in a fight against time to save her sisters and everyone else before they're forced into suicide or murdered.

With a grunt and a groan, Alice found the end of the path. There was supposed to be a metal grate over the hole she found. From the way the screws were dropped into the tunnel, Cindy had to have burst her way out. Alice knew Cindy – even if she and Ziggy fought, there was only one thing remaining in the camp that would have her that desperate to get out.
Pulling herself out of the hole, following Cindy Berman as she had always done even when angry at her, Alice landed awkwardly on one knee. She felt hands on her, grinning a little deliriously when she saw Ziggy crouched on the floor across from her. She glanced at Cindy, still grinning. “Hey snitch,” she squeezed Cindy’s arm, meeting her eyes.
“What took you so long?” Cindy’s eyes lit up, their old friendship alive again, even if just for a little while.
