In which Mike promises his long dead lover that he will take care of his son and after a painful search and an even more painful court battle he gets custody of one Pete Mitchell. Raising the boy as his own he has to deal with hi both his love and his grief for Duke and his enmity to one Dimitri Kazansky who betrayed Duke and set him up to be a traitor.
This becomes particularly difficult when Dimitri’s son comes to Top Gun. Even more so when he sets his sights on Mike and Duke’s boy.
But Duke is dead.

Once the Daggers have all murmured agreements, Mav turns his head to look at Ice. "You ready, Ice?"
"Let's do this, Mav," Ice replies.
"What the fuck?" comes Jake's voice first, followed by Bob’s, "is that Admiral Kazansky?"
"Fight’s on," Mav calls before anyone can say anything else. "Let's turn and burn, baby!"Mav challenges the Daggers to a dog-fight against him and his wingman. Only - he doesn't tell them who his wingman is going to be, and it isn't until they're in the air that they realise the legend the Iceman is there with them.

“We see it, Sea Raptor,” Whiplash informed her, voice as stern as ever.
“Is that one of ours? I thought the airspace was restricted.”
There was silence for a few long, long moments. Phoenix frowned, squinting into the distance. Indeed, there was a small craft low at her one o’ clock, faint and almost unnoticeable in its white paint. Weird. Possible intelligence craft. Maybe aggressive. But usually enemy craft weren’t that small, or that pale. “Sea Raptor to Control, I have eyes on the craft. One bogey, 10 miles and closing. Is it one of ours?” Still no response. “I’m going to check it out.”

“You got it.” He shrugged, grinning awkwardly. “You can do that, right?”
Bit of a tall order. She threw back the rest of her coffee, still feeling the lack of caffeine in her bones. “Sounds like fun."
