Summary
"That day, when you told us about how you don't like girls. You mentioned a crush, someone who didn't like you back…"
A punched out breath escaped Will. "I didn't think you would ever bring it up, honestly. For the longest time, I wasn't even sure you knew."
"I didn't. I just never- I don't understand.. why me? After everything that happened, why would it be me?" Mike felt like he was being wheeled into surgery, laid bare on the table for everyone to see the mess that was his heart.
"What? Mike, how could it not be you?" Will let out a disbelieving laugh. "Mike, it was always you. It had always been you back then."
Back then. Late again.
"But not anymore?"Mike Wheeler gets drunk and confessions ensue.

Summary
“Can you look at me?” Mike’s voice sounds strange. Thin.
Will slowly turns around. His eyes land comfortably on Mike’s chin, but he feels the boy’s eyes digging into his eyelids, so he forces himself to look up. This cannot possibly be what Will thinks it is. It can’t. Mike might tell him about recurring nightmares that’ve been bothering him, or the anxiety that’s been eating him up about his hospitalized parents, or maybe he’s going to start complaining about his withering relationship with El, but it cannot be that, right?
Or
Mike doesn't waste any more time repressing his feelings for Will. Breaking limbs with his badass mind powers is enough of a cue for him to confess.

“What time is it?” Eddie’s voice shifts into something sharp. “Jesus, three AM? Buck, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have called.”
“I don’t mind.”
He meant to be firm, but it comes out soft. Too soft.
He listens to Eddie breathe on the other end of the line.
“He was… before I woke him up. He was saying your name, Buck.”
It’s like the entire world stops. Buck sits, suspended, staring at his bookshelf.
“I’ll be right there,” he hears himself say, pushing up from the bed.
“No, Buck, I can’t ask you to—”
“You aren’t asking. I’m coming. I’ll be there in twenty.”

Summary
“Don’t look, Buck, but I think you might have some competition.” Chim sounds way too amused for his own good.
Buck’s eyes settled onto the naked, beautiful, toned torso of a man. Buck is really good at schooling his face until his eyes slide up to the new recruit’s face and suddenly the jealousy and tension fades away.
“Diaz!?” Buck’s already walking towards the locker room when Eddie looks up. The shocked surprise on his face is evident. And, well.

Summary
Eddie and Buck have always been closer than most best friends and it's never bothered them, but lately they've been starting to wonder if there might be more than just friendship between them.
After all, it's becoming clear that there are a lot of things they do that 'just friends' don't.
-
Pressing his face into his pillow, Buck giggled before mumbling, "Whoops."
"Whoops?" Eddie repeated. "We've been on the phone for almost four hours and all you have to say is 'whoops'?"
"It's been a great four hours," Buck said, the words tumbling out before he had time to consider whether he should be admitting them or not.
"Yeah," Eddie confirmed softly, making Buck's heart squeeze affectionately in his chest. "It has."

“Wait, wha- how- how do you feel about me?” Buck asks, his voice quiet and almost hesitant.
“Buck, really? Isn’t it obvious? Do I have to spell it out for you?” Eddie sighs, eyes finally locking with Buck’s.
“I think I’d like you to.” he whispers, eyes wide. “Just so I- just so I’m sure.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake.” Eddie mutters, and then, frustrated and sad, and angry, he takes the few steps separating him from Buck, grabs his face with both hands, and crashes their lips together.Or, Buck's going on a date, Eddie's so jealous he finally snaps and reveals his feelings, which leads to a passionate evening in Buck's kitchen.

Summary
Someone tried to pull Eddie off. “No!” he shouted, shaking his head. Tears blurred his vision as he repeatedly pressed on Buck’s chest. “He needs me in there!”
Either no one believed him or no one cared. They didn’t listen to him. Hen, Bobby, and Chim used all their strength to force him away. “Buck!” Eddie screamed out, desperately thrashing against their grasps. He knew they weren’t allowed past the surgery doors, but he didn’t care. Not when Buck was behind them.
“Buck!” Eddie didn’t want to let up, but the adrenaline in his system was on its way out. He didn’t have enough strength to overpower all three of them. A defeated, choked-off sob left his lips and he stopped, his hands weakly shooting up to Bobby’s arms.
His legs gave up on trying to support him. Hen and Chim let him go as Bobby lowered him down, his arms still around Eddie’s front.
Eddie could faintly hear Bobby trying to comfort him, but none of his words caught. All he could focus on was his own voice as it painfully begged for Buck’s life over and over again.

Summary
Bobby says they need to wait it out, to have Buck come to them, but Eddie can see the worry Bobby has for him. Worry that Eddie himself has when Chris is sad. Bobby is worried about their boy, Eddie’s Buck, his partner, and Bobby’s son. And Eddie’s sure Bobby’s patience at the thought of his kid is hurting, he’s hurting and all alone, is going to wear thin soon. Maybe if Bobby is the one who’s pushing, the blowout won’t be so bad.
So Eddie waits it out. He doesn’t have a choice. If he pushes, Buck will run. It’s what the Buckley’s do best, and Eddie isn’t up for a cross-country road trip with his kid like Chimney was.

Summary
It starts when he breaks up with Taylor. Or maybe it starts when Maddie leaves again, when Chim tells him over and over again that he's done with him. Maybe it even starts when Eddie was shot, when Buck's entire world crumbles in front of him for the thousandth time and he can't do anything except sit back and watch.
Buck can't take everyone leaving him again, can't take being alone anymore. So this time, he leaves first.
Or he tries to. Eddie doesn't let him. When Buck pulls away, Eddie follows him. And Buck finally lets himself break.

“Dude, the bar’s basically empty, why do you need my spot?” He asked as politely as he could but the pint of beer he had been sipping on was finally getting to his head.
“You’re not a regular, by the looks of it,” the man eyed Buck up and down judgementally, “you don’t know the role I own here.”
Upon saying that, a few of the man’s buddies started to emerge from the pool table and crowd around Buck.

“Eddie, what are you?” he began to ask, but Eddie was already stepping into the apartment, setting the bag on the kitchen counter.

Summary
Buck remembers reading something once. He’s not sure where or when, and he’s not even sure who said it. But he’ll never forget the words. He’ll never forget the way they burrowed beneath his skin like an arrow aiming straight for his heart. Those words had made him ache back then, but now the memory of them is ripping him apart.
Someone has to leave first. This is a very old story. There is no other version of this story.
He’d always known it would be Eddie who would walk away first, but he hadn’t expected it to go like this. He hadn’t expected it to hurt quite so bad.
(Or, five times Buck thought Eddie would leave, and the one time he knew he would stay.)

Summary
"Can you remind my brother that we were supposed to get lunch?” Maddie asks.
“Uh sure,” Eddie says slowly, confused. “But why don’t you just call him yourself?”
“I did, a couple times, but he didn’t answer. I assumed he was still with you?”
Eddie thinks back to last night, to Buck specifically making plans to go back to his own place so he wouldn’t be late for lunch with Maddie. Buck had texted him when he got home, just a simple night :) that still made Eddie’s heart flutter, so obviously Buck had made it back to the loft… But there haven’t been any texts from Buck all morning. Not that that is necessarily unheard of, but especially over the last few weeks it’s become rarer and rarer for even a few hours to go by without Eddie’s phone dinging with a message notification from Buck.
A small tendril of worry curls around Eddie’s ribs.

Summary
Buck didn’t believe in much, not in God and certainly not in his parents. But for some inexplicable reason, he believed in the utter goodness of Eddie Diaz.
It started with a grenade in a man’s chest. It started with jokes during shift and the absolute love and adoration on his face when Christopher was around. It started with the way he made everyone feel at ease, the bloody and injured people he was helping, those working alongside him, anyone and everyone.
It started with a million little, bright things, but Buck has always been - oblivious. So he finally realized it, the trust he had, the love he had for Eddie in the worst moment. With a gun to his throat and a very angry man talking calmly in his ears.
