“Angel, are you sure this neckline is supposed to be this low?”
Crowley was decked out in a fine red wool kirtle laced tight up the front to hug his upper body as well as any modern Lycra. The neckline in question exposed his shoulders and gently curved to well below his collar bones. It highlighted his slender waist and the slight curve of his chest. Aziraphale let out a little puff of air and swallowed before replying, “Quite sure.”
“This is the 14th century we’re talking about, not the 1990s, right?” Crowley was still looking askance at the black silk brocade over gown in his arms. “Don’t get me wrong, the snake design is excellent, but it feels a little turn-of-the-millenium goth night.”
“Oh, yes. The very late 14th century, in the court of the Queen of France. Decolletage was de rigueur, and imported silk with animal patterns was very popular.”
“I don’t see you showing any decolletage,” Crowley said with an appraising look at Aziraphale, whose own gown was covered in a yellow wool cloak trimmed with gold embroidery. “What are you hiding under there?”
